Re: I MAY BE NEW BUT

No its your wedding and you should get married when you and your FH want to. Ignore your FMI she will have a lot of things to say and do not let her get to you just remember its your day not hers.

You are not crazy at all. You will be hearing lots of unsolicited comments from now until the wedding so take them all with a grain of salt and ENJOY the planning!!!

There are 12 months in a year and you cna have a weddign when ever you want. Tell her to mail you a card from Florida.

Im so sick of people sticking their noses in to someones business.

defnitely think you're right. this is YOUR wedding. i'm sure she'll manage to attend, even if its not what SHE wants. and she should understand why that month means so much to you!

I totally understand what you are saying, I am going through the same thing for a December wedding, with the holidays, and weather. Mine too falls on my deceased Dads birthday, I am even having a small Birthday cake next to the wedding cake.

Re: I MAY BE NEW BUT

Why must all FMIL/MIL's be so difficult???

Re: I MAY BE NEW BUT

THIS IS YOUR WEDDING AND YOU CAN HAVE IT WHEN YOU WANT. YOUR RELATIVES AND FRIENDS SAVE 5 DOLLARS A WEEK AND HAVE ENOUGH TO GIVE YOU A WEDDING GIFT. YEAH, WHY DO THEY HAVE TO BE SO DIFFICULT

alias,

I do feel very bad for those that have difficult FMIL's but I do have to say that not ALL are difficult! Mine are GREAT. Haven't said one negative word about any of our plans!

And to those of you with the difficult FMIL's......

Ignore them and do exactly what the two of you want to do! If they don't like it then they don't have to come!!!!! It doesn't even matter what your reasons are for chosing a certain date or place or anything else because it really isn't anyone's business but your own! This is YOUR day not THEIRS!

Congrats to all the newbies and welcome!

Re: I MAY BE NEW BUT

(I'm hoping once we are married, things will change..)

But you are right, I know have plenty of friends who are happy to be inheriting a great set of inlaws...So I will rephrase it...must most MILs be so difficult???

It is your wedding you have it when you want...you can't make everyone happy!!

Re: I MAY BE NEW BUT

Not at all. It is your day. And if they don't like it - tell them that they don't have to come. There's no reason that they should go out of their way to make you feel bad by saying such stupid things. I've said this before, but sometimes people feel that they have to have some sort of say in everything. Kindly tell them to butt out - if they're not paying for it
Good Luck
Unfortunately, I know what a pain in the butt future in-laws can be.

Re: I MAY BE NEW BUT

allure...I got married on Jan 4th at the Meadow Club(saw that was a possibility for you ) I went thru the same kind of feelings about the date we picked, now I am so happy I chose that date. My church was so pretty withe Christmas decorations and the Meadow Club was so gorgeous for Christmas. Pretty much everyone we invited showed up (only 2 cancelations the day of due to weather and they were out of state) Also everyone was very generous with their gifts for us!!! If this is the wedding you dream of go for it!!!! I will admit it being right after the holidays was a little hectic, but with good organization skills you will be fine!!!! ( We told family and friends right away no exchanging of gifts for us) Be sure to send out save the dates, that will also let people know of your plans!!! If you have any other questions feel free to FM me! Good luck to you

Re: I MAY BE NEW BUT

My family tried to get us to switch our date to January or December because our caterer charged so much less during those months. We stuck with Noveber. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people that think weddings should ONLY happen during May, June, and August and on a Saturday night! IMO, that is old-fashioned. Do what you want. Stick to your grounds. I also had a difficult MIL and once she saw that I didn't let her walk all over me and do whatever she wanted, she backed off. It sounds like the #1 reason they oppose a January wedding is because it interferes with their vacation plans! They can wait until after your big day. They might be relieved to get away after the wedding, also. I know my MIL felt like she needed a vacation when it was all over.
