I mean really what can they do right???

Original post by june262004

Ok,

At the church (my church has some of the dumbest rules EVER) My flower girl is to little. We bought a red wagon covered it in Satin and tulle and having my ring berar pull her down! i didnt ask because I was afraid I already knew the answer NO... im sure they'd say no. That day im just going to let it happen what are they gonna do right? not marry me?

we bought Bubbles and big party poppers I didnt ask about the party poppers cause I am sure they'd tell me they make to much of a mess and that I can't use them. the wedding is over what are they gonna do right?

my Dj wants 27.00 for a dozen glow necklaces Oriental trading has them 50 for 44.95 If I order them and hand them out half way through the wedding what are they gonna do stop playing?

The glow necklaces with the dj shouldn't be a problem. I would go for it.

The church however is a totally different issue. Our church told us that we can't throw rose petals or anything like that. The priest said it had nothing to do with the mess (he would sweep it up himself), but rather a safety concern. He had a wedding once where the MOB slipped on the rose petals and ended up in the hospital for the reception with a dislocated hip. Regardless of the reason, that is their 'rule' and I respect that. I had always wanted the rose petals, no big deal - we do bubbles. The point is while the rules may seem extreme, it is their property and they have the right to create the rules. I wouldn't go against it, you don't know what they will do and it is very disrespectful. With that I don't think the wagon is bad, but the party poppers are another story.

I think you have to be careful and here is why....

My family owns a winery out east. They charge a site fee of $3500. A couple came and told them that they wanted to have a small party of about 30 people. They felt that such a small shouldn't warrant paying a site fee. My family, because they are so nice, told them ok. They just had to buy the wine and pay a small fee per head.

Well...they got a call a couple of weeks ago. Only one month before the party. The woman said that she needed a changing room. When they questioned her further, they found out that the woman was getting married at the party!!!! She needed to change into her dress, and she has a priest showing up for the ceremony. They imagine that she will also want to decorate and have dancing. THIS IS SO WRONG!! She tried to stiff them out of the fee.

So what's the result. She saved $3500. But no one is going to go out of their way to help her.

I hate when people are sneaky like that just to save $. There is this website, there may also be a book, by this woman that tells people tips on how to save $ & one of them is to not tell the venue it is a wedding, just a party, b/c the place will jack up the price.

I understand that, but usually they need to know its a wedidng because additional services will be provided, which is why the price will go up.

As for your parents, I can understand if they said no fee for 30 people, 30 people is 30 people, who cares what the occasion is, but if they wanted to decorate, use a changing room, etc, fees should have been added on for that.
And yes, no special treatement.

As far as the church goes- the wagon should be fine. Are they letting you use a runner? if not, they may not let you , it may mess up the floor. If they see it, someone may make someone carry the child, but they can't really be too mad, b/c they never mentioned it--how were you supposed to know to ask?

As for stuff they SPECIFICALLY told you not to do, I wouldn't do it, but get clarification, since someone else was told something different.

Well, since the person having the party has to bring in the caterer, the winery doesn't make any money off of the food. They just make money off of the wine. It really is not fair because the place goes through wear-and-tear and they go through aggravation every time they have a party.

They are not going to let her use any changing room (in reality, they don't really have one, but they could have let her use the office or something). They are not going to let her have dancing or decorations. If she is late with a payment according to the contract, they are going to cancel her event.

It's only 30 people though right? And what does this mean, you think the church is right in what they are saying? Not sure I understand your point?

If this is your family church, I would be very careful about what you do. Frankly, even if it isn't, I would still be careful.

The rules may seem silly to you, but I find it a little disrespectful that you are going to do what you want without even asking if it's OK because you don't want to hear the word 'no.'

I agree with you! All places have rules for whatever reason, and you should respect that.

I am not throwing rose petals I am not doing anything that they said I couldn't all I wanted to do was use the wagon since my flower girl is to little to walk down the asile. But I was just saying as u can see they have A lot of rules I can understand their reasoning behind some of them...

ETA: The reason why we 'picked' this church was because my mother cried and begged me to get married at the church. I would have been happy with getting married at the Swan Club. My brother didnt get married at a church and my mother was really upset. I really don't understand why since the last time any of us where at church was when I made my comfirmation. Since my parents are paying for the entire wedding I really didnt think it was right to not do that for her. I am actually embarassed to get married at the church since I dont go and since I know none of the prayers.

well, in that case, I say just play dumb. If you ask now, they may say no, beause it is out of the ordinary & that would be their first reaction, but it might be differnet the day of.

I'd imagine the worst that would happen is they see it & say no & your MOH would have to carry her down. If you are ok with that as a back up ( i think that'd be really cute) then don't stress & just let whatever happens happen.
