I might need a new job.....

So I was informed today that I might be let go at the end of the school year.
My school district is proposing BIG budget cuts, which might include 2 English teachers...and since I was the second-last person hired.....my job is in jeopardy.
So, if anyone who works in a school district hears of an opening for a secondary english teacher, I'd appreciate it!
I teach 7th grade English now......and I love it, but I'm willing to do high school if need be!
I appreciate it!!

I would suggest Plainedge School District. They are building a huge new middle school right now

were you the second to last hired in the school or the district...

make sure you get a hold of your union rep and see if there are eng teachers in other schools that are there less time...you may move schools...but at least you have a job...

I heard that Sachem is opening a new high school. Look into it. They will probably need teachers.

I will also ask some of my teacher friends.

Erica,
It's a small district, so there's only one middle school and one high school. And both are losing teachers.
I'm not certified for elementary...

this sucks

it was because of the worst time of my life that i met FH, so i guess everythign DOES happen for a reason, right?

We may need a 6th grade reading/english teacher next year, but we pay REALLY low
Sachem school district is splitting next year, maybe they will need teachers. I would jsut send your resume everywhere you can think of. Sorry to hear this

it stinks because the district i'm in now pays really well - so i'm probably oging to have to take a pay cut if they get rid of me!

Okay, i have a question for all you ladies, too. I just got my masters in special education and i have noooooooo idea how to go about getting a job. i am clueless. i am going next week to meet with someone about my resume and i have a list of all the districts in suffolk and nassau, but i am so scared to look b/c i don't know how. it is ridiculous. plus, i am haaving fun planning this wedding . i am just feeling like the biggest failure b/c i will probably never get a job and fh is really on my case about just looking. i had the most wonderful time student teaching...it was amazing. i am just in this big funk and i think i am just scared...i am asking all you teachers for some advice.

look in the new york times - they have a whole section titled 'job market' and then it gets more detailed into education and then teachers.
i was looking to day and i saw a few for special ed.
then get ready to send out that resume as much as possible and wait for the phone calls. keep checking in the times every week and sending your resume out to as many schools as you can - even ones you wouldnt' want to work in - to get the interview experience. and eventually, you'll find that perfect job!
(and then they'll fire you because of budget cuts......no - just kidding! morbid sense of humor)

good luck - it's scary, but it's great once you're in there doing it!
