I need a priest or justice of the peace

Hi Gals,

I'm MOH for my sister and she's trying to find a catholic priest or a justice of the peace that won't cost a fortune.
She's getting married in Manhattan- the ceremony & reception will all be at 1 location, but we can't find anyone to do it.
Can anyone make a recommendation or suggestion?

A Catholic priest will not perform a marriage ceremony outside of the Catholic church. However, you can have a priest from a different denomination marry you. I am not familiar with the other branches of Christianity regarding their rules, but for Catholics this is what I know.

For a pastor, I highly recommend Pastor April. She really goes over and beyond. Excellent woman! She travels. She a vendor on here and you can email her and she will respond back to you.

I searched far and wide for the same. We had a family friend who was going to do it but he will be out of the country. This is the closest you will get. Not technically the roman catholic church but the closest thing that will marry outside the church. Since it's a sacrament, the catholic church says you cannot perform it outside of a church.

This isn't true. Many of us had Catholic priests perform ceremonies outside of the church. We had a Catholic priest perform our interfaith ceremony alongside a rabbi. Our priest is actually based in Manhattan. FM me for his contact info.

Are you sure it's recognized by the catholic church in all situations? Jewish-catholic weddings are allowed outside church I believe but I'm not sure other weddings are, if both bride and groom are christian (obviously one has to be catholic).

I'd check into it properly with the diocese of rockville center or your church..

I know someone who got married at oheka by an 'ex' catholic priest, I saw the guy on tv years later Fox shame shame shame thing, he's legal to marry you by the state of ny, just not legal in the eyes of the catholic church like he claimed.

I can't speak for a couple where both are Catholic and, to my knowledge, that is different situation and looked upon differently by the church. In our situation (interfaith), we were able to find several priests and a deacon who were willing to perform our ceremony.

ETA: Since the OP asked about a justice od the peace option, it doesn't seem as though the couple is concerned about the marriage being recognized by the church.
