I NEED ADVICE...

My best friend bought me a gift off of my registry about a month and a half ago and purchased it off my registry from BBB. Weelll, I spoke to her today and told her I did not get the gift. So I checked my address on my registry and it was the correct one, then she checked UPS and the package was signed for at MY OLD HOUSE A MONTH AGO! So whoever lives in my old house signed for the package and kept it!
Now, I don't know how the gift was sent to that address since I didn't have this registry when I lived there and all of my info was correct. UPS told my friend that since that was the info they got from BBB, then there is nothign they can do.
So I found the woman's phone number online who lives in my old place and called her. Well, she didn't answer, so I left her a message saying that I think there was a mix up and I was afraid she may be receiving gifts from my registry and could she please call me because I know there was something delivered there, but of course, she never called me back. What can I do about this, if anything? BBB and UPS were NOOOOOOOOO help. Should I go to my old house and talk to the woman? I mean, she's probably eating off my dishes right now! I just feel bad because my friend spent A LOT of money for my dishes.

I would do one of two things:

Go to BB

Go to your old house.

it's easy for people to give you the run around or avoid you when your on the phone. It's a lot harder when you are in person.

I would also request a copy of hte sgnature from UPS

I hope you get this resolved. It really stinks that this is happening to you. I am sorry!

YES! I would because what that woman is doing is being dishonest and stealing from you. Man I tell ya you cant trust anyone.

I thought I was going to throw up when I heard she signed for it a month ago! I just couldn't believe it! As if I would NEVER find out! F-ing people, I swear. And all I could think was, 'F-ing figures that my dishes match the kitchen in that house!'

I am sooo sorry you are going through this. also thats forgery she can get in trouble for that. you can go to the police station and tell them.

First get the copy of the slip from UPS of the delivered address and their signature. Then I would take a copy of it to BBB and ask them how the hel1 that address got on your registery. Then confront her and if that doesn't work talk to the police and the postmaster general!

I would definitely get the documentation from BBB as to what they have as your address history. If at one time, they had your old address, ask them for documentation on when they updated it.

Also, get documentation from the post office showing who the item was sent to and who signed for it.

Call the person again just to let her know that unfortunately, if your items are not going to returned to you within x number of days, you will bring her signature card to the police and ask for their assistance.

isn't it also illegal to open mail addressed to someone else?

If it is you have her for forgery and mail fraud.

We had a gift delivered to our old address. The lady then contacted us and we picked it up. UPS is responsible if she signed the wrong name and they gave it to her.

Thanks everyone. Looks like I will be spending my free time investigating what the hell is going on. I'm so mad about this. I NEVER get angry like this, but I feel SO violated I am definitely going to get a copy of the signature.

FUNNY you should say that- do you know it is also illegal to purposely have mail sent to someone's home for the sole purpose of harrassing them- not only that but since it is the mail it is a federal crime!!! Just thought I would throw that in there for everyone's information!

Did sign your name or her name. If she signed her name its not really forgery right? Like if something came for my DH and I signed my name it would be ok. That is so F*ed up though.

If the lady signed her own name though - wouldn't UPS be responsible for the package then? Like not checking that it was a different name or no apparent relation to the name?

I would get a copy of the receipt. Then go to the house. If she says she didn't sign for it, show here the proff.
