My best friend bought me a gift off of my registry about a month and a half ago and purchased it off my registry from BBB. Weelll, I spoke to her today and told her I did not get the gift. So I checked my address on my registry and it was the correct one, then she checked UPS and the package was signed for at MY OLD HOUSE A MONTH AGO! So whoever lives in my old house signed for the package and kept it! Now, I don't know how the gift was sent to that address since I didn't have this registry when I lived there and all of my info was correct. UPS told my friend that since that was the info they got from BBB, then there is nothign they can do. So I found the woman's phone number online who lives in my old place and called her. Well, she didn't answer, so I left her a message saying that I think there was a mix up and I was afraid she may be receiving gifts from my registry and could she please call me because I know there was something delivered there, but of course, she never called me back. What can I do about this, if anything? BBB and UPS were NOOOOOOOOO help. Should I go to my old house and talk to the woman? I mean, she's probably eating off my dishes right now! I just feel bad because my friend spent A LOT of money for my dishes.

I would definitely get the documentation from BBB as to what they have as your address history. If at one time, they had your old address, ask them for documentation on when they updated it.
Also, get documentation from the post office showing who the item was sent to and who signed for it.
Call the person again just to let her know that unfortunately, if your items are not going to returned to you within x number of days, you will bring her signature card to the police and ask for their assistance.
I agree, this is what I would do.

Re: I NEED ADVICE...
Well, UPS claims they wash their hands of it because that is the address that was given to them by Bed Bath Beyond, then Bed Bath Beyond said that my OLD address was on my registry as my forwarding address, which is absolutely insane since I didn't even LIVE THERE when I started my BBB registry, so THEY are giving me no help! So now I need to get my friend to get a copy of the info from UPS. I have not heard from the woman who lives in my old house and JT will not let me go over there. He's afraid she'll call the police to say I am harrassing her. I don't see how knocking on her door one time is harrassing her, but whatever. So he is going to try to get to the bottom of this because it is making me sick to my stomach. In the meantime, I think I am going to buy myself the plates and tell my best friend that the woman fessed up and gave me the money for them. I really don't want her to think that her money was wasted since she spent a lot of money on them Then we'll deal with it without her knowing. Thanks for all the advice everyone. I will keep you updated.

Re: I NEED ADVICE...
are you kidding me? i received a package from tiffanys (didn't recognize senders name) and called tiffanys to noify them that i think the package was sent to the wrong address. long story short, it was someone that FI used to work w/. point being, i would NEVER keep something that wasn't mine. not to mention this B*TCH s totally avoidng your calls. not sure if ths steppng over the boundary, but could you contact the landlord?
i would wait before purchasing the dishes. get the receipt from UPS and then knock on her door. personally, i DO NOT consider that harrassment. she is in the wrong, NOT YOU.
ETA: i think you can obtain a copy of the receipt online if you have the tracking number. at the very least you can see that it was infact delivered.

First get the copy of the slip from UPS of the delivered address and their signature. Then I would take a copy of it to BBB and ask them how the hel1 that address got on your registery. Then confront her and if that doesn't work talk to the police and the postmaster general!
I couldn't have said it better myself!

I would call the police at this point, once you obtain that she signed for it. You have the evidence and could actually take her to court.

Re: I NEED ADVICE...
That happened to me with a Lenox gift I bought for FH's mom a few years ago. It was mailed to the wrong house and they signed for it and kept it. I knocked on their door and confronted her (in a nice way, as if it was a misunderstanding) and she said she knew nothing about it. So I ended up calling Lenox and they sent me another one, free of charge. It was either them or UPS, I forget which one. Because it was their error.
