I have a problem that has been driving me crazy! I would really appreciate your advice/inputs. My fiance and i are planning to go to Tahiti/Bora Bora for our honeymoon in July. The thing is that my fiance just got a new job at Jet Blue. He got hired in November and was told that he would probably be starting in January. It is now January and we have yet to hear from them. My fiance calls and leaves messages but they don't even return the calls. Our wedding is in 6 months and I REALLY want to book our honeymoon but since he is just starting i'm afraid that he won't be getting any vacation days. If he told them that we were getting married would they allow him vacation days? Was anybody else in this situation? I have the biggest urge to go and just book the honeymoon thinking 'what can they do at that point?!' but i'm afraid they are going to be like 'sorry, you can't go!' Anybody know how things like this work?

Re: I need advice!
I'm not sure exactly how this works... but my mom works for JetBlue too...
did he do the training program already? i know that the flight attendants have to 'bid' on trips... and there is some seniority involved.... a lot of the trips are on a first-come first-serve basis, so he might be able to rearrange his schedule to fit your HM by taking trips before and after to get enough for his monthly hours..
I can try to ask my mom for more info...

My fiance got hired by Jet Blue as an aviation mechanic so i don't think the monthly hours apply to him. Or do they?

I don't know anything about Jet Blue, but I would think that they will allow it as long as they are notified when he gets the call from them. If anything he would be able to take the time and not get paid.

At this point i don't even care if he doesn't get paid as long as they allow him to take the necessary days off. I've been nagging him to call them so that at least he can give them ahead notice but nobody at the office picks up the calls nor do they even bother to return messages! What's going on with Jet Blue?? I love the airlines and fly with them ALL the time but now i'm getting really annoyed. At first i was really excited that he got the job at Jet Blue but now i kinda wish that he would just stay at the company he is with now so that at least his vacation days are guaranteed. I'm so selfish! All this so that i can go to Bora Bora!

a lot of companies let you 'buy' the days if you havent reached the point where your vacation kicks in. So they might let him take off, but it wont be paid vacation and he wont get a paycheck for that week. But obviously I dont know how it works at JetBlue.

Re: I need advice!
I have been a consultant for years. Everytime I start a new job I have vacation planned. I usually wait till htey call and offer me the position, once I accept I say I'll nned off on X date. I have NEVER had anyone have a problem with it. Now, whether he'll get paid for the time off is another It will depend on their vacation benefits.

My FH was in a similar situation with the LIRR. He was told 'Sorry. You can go but you won't have a job when you get back.' So I'm sure it all depends on the company. My old job I didn't have a problem with it. I would wait. You don't want to lose all your money if you can't go.
