I NEED ADVICE!!! HELP!!!

Ok... So my FH spent a lot of money for my e-ring... and I just go it appraised so we could put it on under our home owners insurance...

and guess what....

MY RING APPRAISED FOR $2,000 THEN WHAT HE PAID!!! (thats not including tax) IS THIS USUAL???

I thought it was suppose to appraise for more then what you paid for it... Thats what they told him at the store!

OK I AM SO UPSET... DO I DO SOMETHING??

Do I go back to the store... The man told me to go back and see if they will give me the difference... I feel weird doing this... but $2,000 is a lot of money, it could be my down payment on my hall...

Did anyone else have this problem??

What should I do!!!

Get it appraised by someone else and see if they give you the same roundabout figure the first one did. If they do, then I would go back to the store you bought it from with the appraisal and demand the money back. With them overcharging you that amount of money, thay may as well have charged you $$$ for a piece of glass!!!

i agree thats very weird, did everything else match up, like the quality, color, size? def. go to a different apprasier and see what he/she says. if they agree then go back to where FH bought the ring.

I am not sure if that is usual. My ring appraised for 3,500 more then my FH paid. Make sure you went to a reputable appraier and I would ABSOLUTELY GO BACK!

No... The Color was a little was off... he only marked as being 1 letter off... but he says he was being generous...

I don't know, I just spent over $100 to get it apprised...

You girls really think I should do it again?

Anyone know of a good place??

I would bring the appraisal in. If this happened to me I would go back!

Actually it wouldnt hurt to get one more appraisal so they have no argument.

Re: I NEED ADVICE!!! HELP!!!

Actually many jewelers guarantee that the ring is worth more than the appraisal.

thats what I though!!!

Many jewelers often guarantee that a piece of jewelry is more than it is. But, if they are reputable, and honest, they would not do that. Do you have a money back guarantee on your ring? If so, take it back and get something else or get a refund. Also, make sure you go to certified gemologist to have your ring appraised. I recommend the Jewelry Judge in Garden city.

Thats where I went

I really liked it, and I trusted him... Its the store I don't trust.

They may have charged your FH the appraisal price rather than the sale price in the store... Go back to the store and check. good luck

Ok... I went back to the store, and they were like... OH... INTERESTING, I've never had this before... UM YEAH OK.

They told me to come back again tomorrow... when the main person is there...

UGH, I feel bad, my FH is upset... He feels like they took advantage of him, and he didn't get the best ring for me...

They were like, oh we can give you a new ring for the correct amount of money...

And I said NO! I want the ring he gave me its perfect... and I think he was happier after I said that, I think he thought I was going to exchange it...

I just want his money back...

I hope they give it to him...

Do you think they will???

Maybe. More likely though, they will offer you jewlery. Like maybe attendants jewelry, your jewelry for the day of the wedding, maybe even the wedding bands.

I went to him too, he is pretty accurate from what I have heard. He told me before hand if there is a discrepency to go back to the jeweler with his findings and have them make up for the difference or offer you another stone.

They should be appraised for more!!

definitely do it again and then go back to whomever sold it to you and raise hell. My ring appraised for double what my FH paid for it.

Absolutely raise hell!!! My ring was also appraised at double what my FH paid!

Do not settle for them just exchanging ofr giving you a credit if that is not what you want. Demand the $$$ back and put it towards your honeymoon or something!

Re: I NEED ADVICE!!! HELP!!!

my advice... get a 2nd appraisal. my appraisal came in less than I what I thought it would, but still way more than what my FH paid for it. Now that I have my w-ring, I plan on getting another appraisal from someone else (for both rings).

definitely get a 2nd opinion and if it also comes in low, bring both appraisals with you to the jeweler you got t from and return it!
