I NEED ADVICE!!! HELP!!!

The Jewelry Judge is an independent appraisal company. They have no reason to give you wrong info.

Your jeweler needs to step up to the plate. It's possible they priced the ring wrong when they sold it to your FH. Put the ball in their court. Good luck.

Ok... I am going back to the store tonight... and if they need more proof then I will go back and get another appraisal, with them paying for it... I will demand that!!

You see... He also bought my Wedding band from them!!! 2 yrs ago, I went traveling overseas in Korea for work, and I got back to NY on Valentines day, and he game me my wedding band that day... b/c he couldn't afford a e-ring yet... but now that he has a great job, he went and got this 'really expensive' or 'really ripped off' ring...

So... If they offer some crap like, we will give you your wedding bands or something... I am not down with that...

Oh well... I will let you gals know what happens tonight...

I saw a special on fox five that said jewelry stores can tell you a ring is worth a certain amount and that they DO NOT have to be right - because appraisers are giving their OPINION - there is no standard scientific way to say a ring is worth X amount of dollars instead there is a broad range - every appraiser is different - lets say your ring was appraised at $2,000 like you were told - the range the jewelry can sell it for can be from $2,000 to $5,000 - they do not have to sell it for what the opinion of the appraiser is!

The show said when you buy a diamond make sure you like how it looks and you don't mind paying the price offered - but don't count on the certificate or an appraisers opinion on the cash value -


when you go back to the store - don't expect to get your money back -

but I will be curious to know if they do give in and give it to you based on your appraisal.

Ok... I went back to the store, and they were like... OH... INTERESTING, I've never had this before... UM YEAH OK.

They told me to come back again tomorrow... when the main person is there...

UGH, I feel bad, my FH is upset... He feels like they took advantage of him, and he didn't get the best ring for me...

They were like, oh we can give you a new ring for the correct amount of money...

And I said NO! I want the ring he gave me its perfect... and I think he was happier after I said that, I think he thought I was going to exchange it...

I just want his money back...

I hope they give it to him...

If you want to keep the ring, ask for a different diamond. The color and clarity will make a big difference in price.

ooh-I had the same thing happen!!
FH bought my ring from a family friend that theyve known since HS that owns her own jewelry store-and it was CRAP!!!!
When we got it appraised it was an ugly situation...
We went an had it appraised-ask the appraiser to plot your diamond and go thru the task-our appraiser did us a favor-she didnt actually do all the documentation but did tell us to send her card along with the paperwork back to the jeweler with a cerified letter and the ring (highly recommend you keep the ring-in case they play games)
Most jewelers WILL make good on it. They dont want their name to get trashed...though some will tell you 'buyer beware' and send you on your way.
The lady who appraised our ring bought jewelry from a wholesaler when she owned her own shop-had a lady buy a very expensive necklace-wore it on a hot day and the gold that had been painted on it stained her shirt. She called everyone she sold a piece of jewelry to from the wholesaler and told them if it didnt appraise at at least what they paid she would give them their money back! And she did!!!
Needless to say-we replaced the ring and the one I have is 10X better quality then the first, dont get me wrong it is the same type setting, just a different stone.
If they are willing to change the stone-TAKE IT and run!!
ETA:Stand your ground-some appraisers are leary on getting involved with these kinds of things-so keep away from mentioning it-we had 2 appraisers tell us they couldnt help us and WOULDNT appraise the ring. Make sure that you know your stuff-if you need any help just FM and I will help you as best I can.

Even if the diamond is GIA certified? Mine is and I also PAID 250 for an appraisal by the Gemological Appraisal Lab of America to verfiy it was the diamond that matched the certificate.

Alright, I went back, and they will pay for me to get another appraisal... They seemed like they were very concerned and are going to help me (at least I think, my FH was a little less impressed) Anyway... It is still a sketchy situation...

They told me that the Jewelry Judge always underestimates which I think is BS... but anyway.

They are sending me to THEIR appraiser with them paying the cost...

SO, I think I will go get another appraisal done somewhere else, in addition to theirs...

So I need your help... Does anyone know of another appraiser in New York City, or Nassau??

Yes even if the diamond is GIA certified - those certifics are really meaningless - as you can see the store has now offered to pay for her to go see THEIR appraiser - which will be very different than the one she went to -

I went to her just last week because I never had my ering appraised and she seemed to really know her stuff. She said she'll go to court to fight for you if she has to. Lady Princess also went to her I believe and included her in her wedding review.
