Planning a bash for DH's 40th. We're not going to do the traditional pay per person. I just want to have it at a place where everyone is just going to gather and have some drinks and maybe some munchies to celebrate with the b-day boy. I may run a tab, but I haven't decided if it will be just a come and hang out thing or an actual we are paying for a party thing. Casual, but I know we will commandeer the bar and I don't want to piss any other patrons off there.
This is a toughie. I wanted to have it at Mims but I realized that there are tables all around the bar for dinner and people may get annoyed.
So whaddya think?
ETA: Not being cheap, it's just that I have other things planned for his b-day gift and they are $$$$$$$$!! Wish I could throw him a party for $2k and everything else. Also, it's not a surprise.

Mims I heard is really nice! I would have it there and so what if other patrons get annoyed, its a bar, party time. If you know that you are going to be a big crowd then why dont you ask them to move the tables or why dont you guys occupy them or are they only there to serve food? Even so I would use those tables to put your munchies that you order- your appetizers on. If you t hink you guys will be too rowdy then I would go with a different place, like runyons an atmosphere where you dont have to worry about bothering others. Good Luck!!!

Actually Runyons is not a bad idea. It would be a Thursday night too. I would make the get together early-maybe starting at 5:30 ish. This way, the place won't be nuts by the time we get there. I should give them a call.

My girlfriends and I get together once a month at Champions inside the Marriott of Uniondale once a month. The drinks are good and the appetizers are even better.

That's a cool idea too. I would want it to be somewhat structured but obviously I don't want to book the room for just us or we would have to pay for the room.

Waterzooi or Victory in Garden City. I went to my sis-in-law's 30th at Waterzooi. Food was AWESOME. You have the room downstairs all to yourself, including a bar. She also had a belly dancer, and filled the bar with all candy from when we were young and gave everyone 'goodie' bags to fill up. You don't have to do the candy and belly dancer, but the place is great! (Best... French Fries.... EVER). She actually made them put a thing of fries out since they are THAT good.

Always Blue Hanu in Huntington. Also I hear there is a new place called Blackstone's in huntington and four. i don't know much about them. What about Don Juan's on Old Counry road. It is a fun place. Plus if you do a happy hour, they have food and stuff.

Lisa-thanks. That's a good one too. It gave me some other ideas too to go with the Mexican theme. I have to make some calls. I'll add that to the list.
