My parents have never met FH's parents. My mom was asking if she should call his parents. Her co workers said that the grooms parents should make the call first....
what do you guys think? ( personally I dont see the difference BUT, I dont want to start any riffs!)

my mom made the first call and we all met for dinner one night. I don't think there is a set rule for who makes the first call

Hmm, I'd say maybe you and FH could try to organize a get together with all of you. Then neither parties would have to make a first call!

See, I agree...thats what I was planning on doing...but my mom thought she should introduce herself...herself...lol

Def agree.... it just seems less akward for everyone....go out to dinner or have a bbq now that the weather is getting nice.

I don't see the difference either. I am trying to think how we did this, i remember there being talk about dinner so they can meet, both parents had mentioned this, so joe and i talked and then talked to our own parents, everyone agreed to have dinner and then i think I gave Jane(FH'smoms for those that don't know) my moms number and they set something up.
Maybe you and your FH can talk about setting something up and tell the parents how they feel about it and when is good for them, and just give them eachothers number to talk
Oooo also Christina-I GOT THE PICS!!! your mom gave them to me yesterday and OMG they are soooo cute, you and joe are adorable in the pictures, i love the photobooth pics you both are too cute in that, hahaha i should post those. dont think there is a rule. our parents asked FH and I to organize something so we did and they met over dinner.

sorry to crash but tradition states that the groom's parents call the bride's parents first... but i say screw tradition - if your mom wants to call i think that's sweet, and she should!

i agree - the groom asks the bride's parents for permission and then after the engagement the groom's parents call the bride's parents to congratulate them and organize some type of get together
this is only tradition of course - my mom ended up calling FMIL first - they are more American though so we kind of figured they wouldn't know this
but my FILs DID plan our engagement dinner which was about two months after the engagement and the first official get together after the engagement.

FH's mom wanted to actually do a dinner to get all 6 of us together...but our parents kind of knew each other in the past...from bowling and stuff...but I really don't think it matters who calls who...no one called...FH and I set a date and place and we all met there...
