Ok I'm starting to feel like I'm getting in over my head with the wedding. At first I had a clear idea of what I wanted to accomplish/book and in what order. Now I'm just so confused.
Should I book a florist before I get my dress? Should I be trying on dresses already? I torture myself...
Can you share the order you booked your vendors?

Re: I need guidance!!!
Okat first take a breathier. Second don't get stressed about order. I think you should do it in the order of things that are MOST important to you. For me I plan on booking in the following order:
Reception Hall ( Boooked) Photographer DJ Dress Florist Etc...
I'm really not focused on my dress cause I'm on a major diet and recently had surgery. As far as the dress goes, flip through magazines to get an idea of what dresses you like.
I think whats important is to book in the order of things that seriously MEAN A LOT!!!
For me photographer is right under the RH.
Hope this helps!!!

Re: I need guidance!!!
ok... don't stress-- you still have plenty of time!! the same thing happened to me and I freaked out and started rushing and ended up losing about $1000 because I changed my mind on caterers and stuff...
our order was about this (I can't remember all of it exactly, so this is mainly right!):
RH Photographer/Videographer DJ Honeymoon Ceremony Musician Bridesmaid's dresses My dress Flowers Officiant Jewelry Limo Favors Hair and Makeup Gifts ...then came all the little stuff, and 26 days to go and I'm still not done!!!!!!

Re: I need guidance!!!
Do get overwhelmed. I would book the RH first and then after that I would book in order for it's importance to you. If you feel music and photography are the 2 most important aspects of the wedding for you, then book those first and then see where you are at with your budget from there.
As far as trying on dresses, go for it! This is you're time to play dress up. You can try on different styles and see what works best for you. My only advice would be to not BUY anything now and wait until you at least a year out.
Just relax and have fun with the planning!

Re: I need guidance!!!
i have had a pretty long engagement so i pretty much booked my vendors a long time ahead but here is the order i did it in:

ETA: i think you have time so don't be overwhelmed! focus on one vendor at a time.

Re: I need guidance!!!
I agree with trying but not buying a dress now for sure!!
When I first got engaged I tried on so many dresses in the beginning-- then I took a breather for a few months and started looking again and I went in a TOTALLY different direction!
I am so glad that i didn't buy something too far out because I would have ended up wanting to change!
If you find something you love don't cave the the salesperson's pressure of a dress being discontinued!! They almost got me with that one!!
Instead-- if you truly fall for a dress ask them to put your name down and call you if they hear it's going to be discontinued-- this way you're safe in case it is THE ONE!!
My last piece of advice is not to book too much too far in advance. You'd be surprised at how your vision changes and also being on LIWeddings you see things that you never thought of and suddenly change directions!!
I had a CLEAR picture of my wedding- and while in the end it's very similar to what my original idea was-- there were a few things that changed-- perfect example is that I booked video SOOOO far in advance -then closer to the wedding changed my mind about the vendor and lost a deposit in switching to someone else!!
Your major vendors should be set in stone, then take your time to shop around
Best of luck!

Re: I need guidance!!!
Hi! Don't become overwhelmed. You have plenty of time, so definitely enjoy this time! First, book anything that the vendors can only do one party per day for. That would be your dj/band, photographer, and rh/church. You can then take a long break, and about 15-12 mos before, start looking at dresses. I promise you that once you find your dress, you'll be able to start to envision the 'style' of your wedding (i.e. sexy vs. sweet vs. classic), and after that you can more easily move onto bridesmaid dresses and florist because you'll know the look you'll want to accomplish. Rounding out the list would be hair/makeup, invites, limos, tuxes. Once all that is done, you can do the 'little' things like bp gifts, menus, programs, etc. Hope this helps, and remember to have fun!

Re: I need guidance!!!
You have plenty of time to get a dress. I didn't get my dress till last week and I am getting married 5-6 months before you.
I booked in this order RH Florist DJ Photo/video Limo
In the end I don't think it matters what order you do it in. But if there is a vendor you know you want to book meet with them first so they don't get booked up on you.
I would say you have plenty of time....I waited to order/look for my dress about 14 months before my wedding.

Re: I need guidance!!!
i have had to tell brides that the dress they wanted has been discontinued and, thought it is rare, it is always hard! If you are the type that won't be able to pick a second dress, don't start shopping now. Wait until a year before, then when you find the dress, buy it. I always trying on a lot of dresses to make sure its the one, but if you come back to it, buy it.

Re: I need guidance!!!
Don't worry - you have plenty of time.
I booked my RH a year in advance. Booked my DJ and Florist and Photography 11 months ahead of time. I got my dress 10 months before my date but that's because I saw it online after I got engaged and fell in love with it, and it happened to be perfect when I saw it in person too so I didn't see any reason to wait. I didn't book my limos until almost 6 months before my wedding.

Re: I need guidance!!!
we didnt have a particular order. we havent even booked a dj or band yet. just do what you feel like booking first. we obviously did venue first, then i randomly looked at some djs and wasnt happy, then booked ceremony music, florist, waited awhile and booked cocktail music. theres no specific order. take a breather and relax. i was bored and went dress shopping and bought a dress. lol everything will get done just enjoy being engaged!!

Re: I need guidance!!!
I am going things in a weird order- I got the Hall and a dress picked out. Next is asking the girls to be in my party then their dresses. Photographer, Limo's and DJ will all get done some time mid next year- I think flowers are at the bottom of my list.
I kind of feel like if I do it all when I am ready to in my own order I wont be so stressed. Even though I don't have much done I still feel good about everything.
