I NEED HELP PLEASE! GIVE ME YOUR OPININS!

I NEED HELP PLEASE! GIVE ME YOUR OPININS!

So me and FH have been talking and we don't think that we can afford our big wedding for March 2010. So, I called where our reception is and I talked to our banquet manager. He said that we can keep the same price that we are paying with half the people and in the small room if we get married there within the next 6 months (JUNE).

I talked to FH about this and we CANNOT afford to get married within the next 6 months! We already have $2000 invested into our hall.

I am torn- I don't know what to do. We fight about money all the time- I seriously would LOOOOVE to elope but my and his grandparents would be very upset 4 real.

We are thinking about going to our hall and trying to convince them if we can get married in September 2009 there 4 the same price- but I'm 100% sure they would say no and that it is alot more money per person.

Of course if I got the smaller room- i would make my own centerpeices - boquets- get cheap DJ - Photographers -

What should I do? Am I making a smart move? Or a bad one?

(Sorry so long!)

maybe if you really try to budget you can still have the wedding in March. You can def. save money if you do your own centerpieces, invitations, and book vendors that are just starting out and charge a lot less.

But if you really don't think that you can pay for the wedding, maybe you can move it to a later date or just do a small reception at a restaurant.

You cant afford March 2010 but you could afford Sept. 09? Was that a typo?

Well it would be 60 less people and I would do everything less extravagent - and do like AC for a honey moon for a few days. - But I'm not sure if this is a good idea....

September 2009 is more expensive than March 2010, therefore, you might not be saving money even with less people.

Why not trim the guest list for the March 2010 wedding? Can they work the minimum for you if you move to the wedding to Sunday afternoon or Thursday evening?

You can do everything less extravagant NOW... and you'll have more time to save. Would that work?

How much more money is a september wedding to a march wedding?

They wouldn't be able to lower my min I'm in the big room - but sunday after noon is a good idea. Do you think I can ask them if I can have the smaller room , but in the same month on a sunday?

Don't quote me but it's at least 10 to 20 more pp depending on time of day, day of week, etc. March is the cheapest month only 2nd to January. September is actually a peak month.

Definitely, we changed our date with Fox Hollow TWICE, and landed on March because it was the best budget for us.

Day wedding on Sunday will be much cheaper than an evening wedding, and I know Thursday will be cheapest for you.

Ummm whoa?! OMG I didn't know it was that much more---- I wouldn't be saving anything if I changed the date because what I would be saving - I would end up spending! Is November /december really expensive there?

Don't be too sure. I have found vendors willing to haggle in this economy.

March is definitely cheaper than September. When we first started looking at RH we originally had a date set for a Saturday evening in Sep. All the halls quoted me NO LESS than $95pp. Even trying to do a Friday night or Sunday afternoon was expensive. A little cheaper but still expensive. Fox Hollow quoted me $98pp and I had to guarantee a min of 100 or 110(can't remember). This was for September. We decided to put the wedding on hold and when we started planning again, we became VERY flexible with the dates. NOW we are booked at the Fox Hollow for Feb. 15, 09 and we only have to guarantee 60ppl for the SAME room they showed us before AND i'm only paying $55.00pp!!!! My wedding is on a Sunday evening (7:00pm-12:30am) and it's the day before President's Day so MOST of my guests are off the next day.

So i would suggest trying to keep your date. You have enough time to get started on DIY projects to save yourself $$. Also just remember Jan-Mar is considered an off season for MOST RH as well as other vendors so you may just get great deals all the way around.

If your wedding is in Suffolk, I think you can get your money back if you cancel 6 months before and they can book the date (which shouldn't be a problem more than a year away). If it's in Nassau, I don't know what your options are.

I would just take the $2K hit if you can't afford it or see if you can get married later in 2010 and save a lot of money in the mean time.

I'm of the opinion to avoid what you cannot afford and to avoid debt at all costs.

I think lots of us get carried away and go above our means- especially with the advent of sites like these.

I would advise to cut your guestlist, keep your venue- $2,000 is nothing to throw away and see if there is a cheaper date. See what they can remove (if anything) to bring the price down. An event to impress others is NOT worth fighting with FH and I would CERTAINLY not scale back my honeymoon due to a wedding.....it's about you two after all.

That's my two cents, good luck and above all, do not let money or what others want you to do infringe on your relationship.

See if you can push your wedding back a few months in 2010...that way you can have extra time to save, and you can still do DIY's and things to help with the cost...

Re: I NEED HELP PLEASE! GIVE ME YOUR OPININS!

i know how hard it is to start saving and budgeting money for a wedding...they are so expensive and it really is outta control how ppl up the prices for EVERYTHINGGG when they heard weddings but im gunna try and help you out the best i can

i dnt know exactly where you are getting married and what ur budget is so its kinda hard to try and give you examples but here ya go

considering you already have to hall for march 2010 i think you should keep the date and dnt change it to sooner bc your gunna stress yourself out more trying to come up with the money faster this way you have more time to save till march

i know photography is a big thing but it is very expensive..instead of getting a professional just put disposable cameras on each table during your reception and let ppl take the pictures for you..have someone in ur family take some pics alone of you and ur FH and ur bridal party and stuff like that but not getting a professional is gunna save you a ocuple thousand right there..

you can go to a craft store and make bouquets and ceterpieces for reallllllllllllllly cheap which will cut a couple of hundred

and i think that if you talk to your dj he can put a cheap package together for you which will be nice

good luck with everytihng i know its long lol just trying to help you but i def dont think you should change the date....even though ur guest list might be bigger for 2010 not everyone is gunna show up and it will give you more time to save money and think of other money savers along the way!

What about the smaller room on a Sunday in January of 2010? That should help alot. Or maybe something like Easter Sunday or some other less desireable day that would help cut costs?

Re: I NEED HELP PLEASE! GIVE ME YOUR OPININS!

Sept will definitley be more expensive than March. I know it's not ideal, but did you ever consider a mid-week wedding? For example, a Thursday night wedding will probably save you LOADS of money from every vendor. It's unconventional, but would allow you to keep your March 2010 wedding.

Plus, you never know what will happen in the next 1.5 years. It's a really long time away still...One of you could get a really great job...or hit the lotto (do you play?) and then you'd be able to afford your wedding then.
