I need HELP regarding Confetti (Italian Tradition)
Help quick!
I know I have seen '3' candies in favors and also '5' but is there any correct way to this?
The little box I want to put the confetti in are 2x2x2 so obviously '5' would look a little nicer and fuller...
My worst fear is my FMIL saying 'why the heck are there '5' and not '3?!?!'
Also, does anyone have the little sayings for 3 and 5???
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

I'm not Italian...but grew up in Bensonhurst Brooklyn where you're practically Italian by association. I have plenty of Italian friends and have also never heard of this...
Good Luck though and hope you don't upset the inlaws...

Three pieces of Jordan Almonds symbolize health, wealth and happiness. Some people use 5 pieces of Jordan Almonds that symbolize health, wealth, happiness, fertility, and longevity. If you are using 5, I found this poem online: Five sugared almonds for each guest to eat To remind us that life is both bitter and sweet. Five wishes for the new husband and wife -- Health, wealth, happiness, children, and a long life!

Re: I need HELP regarding Confetti (Italian Tradition)
I'm not Italian, but FI is 100%. I had read about the tradition on a couple of the wedding sites, and read that 5 was the traditional #. I also saw the poem that was posted here. When I mentioned it to FI he said, 'There's only supposed to be 3 almonds.' I guess it varies from family to family...

I know exactly what you are talking about. I am pretty certain three are given out. You should call a store that makes wedding favors- or an Italian specialty store- There is one in Queens called Sogno Di Sposa. They are in Ridgewood or Glendale. I don't have the number.

I am Italian and have lived there and have my whole life and have never heard of this either.
Maybe it is more prevalent in Southern Italy? My family is from Naples and we always receive these almonds attached to favors for occasions. This is interesting. I'll have to ask around. I am now curious to know.

My FMIL is doing ours and she put 10 in a bag (i guess this does not help you regarding numbers)... She did say for a wedding they 'must be white', as colors are reserved for baby showers and the like...

Re: I need HELP regarding Confetti (Italian Tradition)
I researched alot of Italian wedding traditions this week, and read a butt-load of articles online regarding this topic. i read that as long as it is an ODD number, it is in line with tradition. some people do three, some do five some people do seven. Do a google search on italian wedding traditions - jordan almonds, and you will find a ton of articles which all say that it needs to be an odd #. good luck!
ETA: okay, going back and looking at articles again, it seems that each culture has a different #. Italian is 5!
'ITALIAN WEDDINGS Five almonds signify five wishes for the bride and groom: health, wealth, happiness, fertility, and longevity. These almonds decorate each place setting as favors, tucked into pretty boxes or tulle bags called *bomboniere* that are often personalized with the couple's names and wedding date.'

Re: I need HELP regarding Confetti (Italian Tradition)
when you do 3 it means: husband, wife and future baby, or G-D. Depending on how you look at it and how religious you are. If you do not choose to do the almonds ther is a new tradition in italy of using the chocolate hearts. they are mad out of the same hard shell. and can be used in the same manner
ETA: I used to be a vendor

Re: I need HELP regarding Confetti (Italian Tradition)
Just to solitify - From another website on jordan almonds: 'Bomboniere is the traditional term given to the small packages of Jordan Almonds that are presented to guests at Middle Eastern, Greek, and Italian weddings. The sugar coating represents the sweetness of marriage and the almond, the bittersweet life. Five Jordan Almonds per guest is traditional. '
I like the significance of what the five stand for: Health, wealth, happiness, fertility, longevity. After reading this, I am going to put a little note by the favors explaining the tradition-i think it's cool!
Good luck with FMIL!

Re: I need HELP regarding Confetti (Italian Tradition)
Technically, Bombonierre is the actual favor... the candies are called 'Confetti' and i had mine brought over with my family from Italy and I have 5... i did just the confetti in the fabric... no favor. i did a donation instead and i attached the paper to the little satchel... see pic...
