I need help..my diamond fell out....updated..its fixed!!AHHHHH!!!

First - focus on the positive - you have your diamond!!! It is not lost, it is safe and sound in your care! It most definitely could have been worse.

Next step is simply having it fixed. Find out what the problem was - were the prongs too thin, should they be thicker/stronger, was there a fault in the setting, perhaps the prongs simply weren't tightened enough? You should not have any problems with a well made 4 prong setting. Is the company that you got it from reputable?

Has the ring and diamond been appraised and insured yet? You may actually want to have it appraised before it is re-set b/c they can get a more accurate appraisal when the diamond is loose. (I know of a good GIA certified gemologist if you need one.) Make sure that the diamond is in good condition. The gemologist can probably also tell you about the setting and its condition. If you have doubts about the place where you bought it from, definitely have it re-set elsewhere. Any good/reputable jeweler can do this for you.

Your ring will be fixed good as new!! Again, look on the bright side - your diamond is safe and you will have it properly and safely reset. Thank goodness it did not fall out some other time where it might have been lost forever!

Oh No! You are having bad luck lately!

Go back and have them re-set it. Things like this happen, it doesn't mean you got ripped off...try not to worry!

After getting it re-set...go to another jeweler and make sure it's right.

I would get it appraised an insured and then let them reset it for free. But really it doesn't seem like they did such a good job.

Your diamond should NOT have fell out!! They need to reset it immediately.

did you pay with credit? call credit co. and see if they can stop payment. you should be covered under basic insurance if you paied by credit.

I agree with advice that you should get the jeweler to reset it.

My stone was wiggling around after I got it back from being sized. My setting is also 4-pronged and I started to flip out thinking I should get new setting entirely. We took it to the jeweler and they tightened it--took two seconds. I think it's a mistake that happens from time to time with all sorts of rings/settings.

I check my ring constantly and stone hasn't budged in the 9 months since.

BTW--I got it appraised after it was tightened from extremely reputable appraiser. She gave us the thumbs up. if you want her name/contact info, let me know.

First off let me say...I LOVE YOU GUYS!!! You were the first place I came for advice because I knew Id get good honesty!!! Thankyou!!!!!
I took it in..at first they said theyd reset it..I said NO WAY>>i wnat my money back..they have a no refund policy..I FLIIPED out..I feel bad but thats juts not acceptable..I said it doesnt say anywhere that a diamond should fall out after a few days..so they told me to come back tomorrow..I flipped out again..demanding to talk to the owner.this place is a chain..anyhow..so as this was happening,,the Vice President came in..he said hed refund teh money..but took a look at my ring..it turns out teh guy who set it to begin with DIDNT have the prongs going up above the diamond on the four corners..so Im lucky it didnt fall out earlier this weekend..but I asked what would have happened if I hadnt found the diamond and they said they would have replaced it..they said they can tell if it fefell out or was taken out. they gurantee their work for the first year..so it would have been covered..so I LOVE this ring..and so I let them reset it..I had two people look at it and say it was good, that it wouldnt fall out again. I got the owners name in case it did happen again....I didnt however get a receipt that thishappened...Hearzbellz..that was a GREAT idea..but i had already left and didnt get yoru post until just now..maybe I can call there and talk with teh owner.
they reset it and now the prongs cover the diamond in the four corners..I feel better.
I cant thank Y'all enough..I literally lost it....I called my Fiance as soon as I realized the diamond was gone and the poor guy said ' Im just going to kill myself right now'....it was just a BAD day.

Yeah..I think I may not wear this ring until I get renters insurance and take out a policy on teh ring..we just bought it Saturday..so I havent had a chnace to do much. It hasnt even been appraised yet..Ill do that tomrrow..for now..I think I'll keep the ring in its box. Its so pretty though....I want to wear it!!

I have a 4 prong and my diamond loosened after a year. We brought it in and they said to have the prongs checked and/or tightened at least every 6 months. (which is exactly what the ladies on here said).

If your diamond is set properly, a 4 prong setting should last a lifetime and not cause problems. You might want to have another jeweler look at the setting to make sure it was done this time properly. If you get the okay that it was, you should feel confident wearing it everyday.

I do not think having a 6 prong setting is the answer (at least not for a princess cut!).

Oh Thanks..please tell Jimthanks too!!! My poor fiance has worked all day..got stuck working tonight..so hes really tired,,he got a call from me..FREAKING OUT.....but hes ok now..just tired. We cant handle anymore stress!!!
