I saw your post the other day but I honestly can't recall why I chose a coil mattress so I hoped someone else would be able to give a more solid viewpoint. So I yanked out my Baby Bargains book and they like both types. They make one good point about foam mattresses - they weigh significantly less than coil. From experience I can tell you that it's a job changing a coil mattress in the middle of the night if there is an accident. Especially when the crib has a bumper on it. Now that Luke doesnt have the crib bumper it's easier but that darn Fisher Price Aquarium hanging on the side always gets in the way LOL I dont have experience with the foam mattresses but I would suppose they are more pliable as well when it comes to pulling it out of the crib.

Did you check babycenter.com or do an online search on coil vs. foam? You might be able to get some more info on it there.

All in all though, I still like the coil. Just because that's what we sleep on so I figure what's good for us is good for him.

We actually got a coil mattress, can't remember the brand but they only make baby mattresses. It's a 2 in 1 mattress since we got the convertible crib. The 2 in 1 has a firm side for when she is a baby and a softer side for when she is a toddler and ready to covert to the toddler bed.
I did have a choice between the two, but was convinced to go with coil. I like the idea of foam, but wasn't sure it was firm enough for an infant. I could be wrong.

I also chose the convertible coil mattress that is firmer on one side for infants, and softer on the other side for when she's a toddler. She seems to love her mattress.
