OK so here is the scoop. I just loved planning my wedding so much that I was thinking about trying to start a buisness on here as a vendor having to do with DIY projects. My question to you is do you think you would use a vendor like that? Like I would make everything from card boxes to votive placecards and everything else. What do you think should I pursue this? I say go for it. I've seen a lot of women from when I was on the Knot do this and they have very successful side businesses. If the price is right and you are pleasant to work with, I would defintiely use you.

hmm. . the only thing is I know to be a vendor on LI weddings.. the cost is very pricey.. I think like over a grand a year and they put you on a waiting list... You could create a ebay business and also sell your work that way. I use craigslist and word of mouth for my photography business. Once you meet someone and they are satisified the word will spread.. and you will get business. I am not trying to shoot down the idea, I am just trying to be realistic .. I hope this helps..

yes... to follow with this point: starting your own business is a lot of work at the beginning. i'm also doing something similar, and there is a lot of 'behind the scenes' work going on, and i still don't have a 'finished product' to show for it.
go for it, just know that it's a lot of work.

Do you have pics of some of the things you did? Posting them would help get things started. BnBDreamin did this, so you might want to speak to her about it. The suggestion to use Ebay is a great one.

Yes, an album with your DIY's is a great idea. Anyone contemplating using your services would look through your album.

Starting a business is expensive - period. In order to be a vendor on LIW (speaking from personal experience) - you will have to submit your certificate of incorporation/business certificate as well as your insurance declaration.
You have to really sit down and decide if this is something you really want to do b/c you will have to invest, and invest heavily at that in the beginning. It may take a while for you to re-coup through profits, but if it's something you are set on doing - go for it!

I think it is a great idea! I am not crafty or a real DIY person. I would love to have those little touches at my wedding for reasonable cost. If someone is able to do it for me it would make my life easier. I say go for it and if you do decide to do it let me know!!!

make a portfolio of your work online.. there are plenty of free photohosting sites.. Photobucket is my favorite.. If you want to see any of the stuff I did for my business.. FM me..

I think it is a great idea! A girl that I work with is getting married just a couple of months before me and we talk about doing something like that all the time! Let's face it - weddings are a huge expense! Just think of all the $$$!!

First of all... Congratulations for trying to do something different.
Yes, I believe there is a need for such market.
Once you know what you want to do, you have to put it together and plan to make it work.
This is the hardest part. Putting a business plan together. Starting a business takes time and money and must be carefully planned. Yes, most likely you won't be able to do invitations without a load of softwares (Microsoft Word won't cut it!). Well, you get the point. How much money will it cost you?
I suggest doing some research on who your competition will be (LIW and other bridal website, local stores, internet, etc...).
How to plan to advertise? To who? Do you have a network system?
How much time to have to devote to your new business?
I know I have dumped a bunch of questions on you but that's not even scratching the surface.
Once you are sure of what you want to do, the preparation is key for you to be successful.
Yes, you can do it. Some people will give you a negative opinion. If you are sure of yourself and have determination it's totally feasible.

Peek-A-Boo! I did do it and it's the greatest thing I've ever done! All I did was one day post a pic of something I made for my own wedding and another bride asked if I could make her one, she'd pay me! And a business was born!
I think being an official LIW vendor would be an awesome thing. I personally am not ready for that much exposure yet. My little word of mouth thing is working great for me. But we're house hunting now and don't you know I'm looking for a house with extra room just so I can have my very own studio! Then I'll definitely go public on LIW! They are a great place for brides, planners, dreamers, entrepreneurs, pregos, mommies, families... you name it. This is a great place to start and a great tool to have at your side and I've received nothing but support and appreciation!
