Ok so about having flower girls and ring bearers in the wedding... My sister(who is my bestfriend) has twins. These girls are my heart and I love them and want them to be in the wedding. My FSIL has a son who is 2 now and and my nephew (brothers son) is the same age. I would love to do 2 girls with the 2 boys. Here's the thing, FSIL lives in FL and I dont want to have the children at the RH. How do I break this to her. And what is everyone doing as a cut-off age at the wedding. FH and I are having some disagreements on NO CHILDREN at the RH. My sister totally understands, so please help.

Re: I need some advice...
the only lil one thats gonna be at my RH is my FG..she'll be 3 & im still not sure if her parents are going to want her there or not...so if not, luckily her grandpa doesnt live far away, so after pics she could always go back to his house...
have u thought about finding a babysitter for the kids? ur FSIL has to understand its an adult only reception..im sure if u have a game plan to go along with telling her, she'll be fine

I just want them to have fun. And I think it's not fun for others to have kids running all over the RH. I dont know if FSIL will feel comfortable with anyone watching them. FH is afraid they wont come, thats pretty ****** isn't it. But FSIL is in the wedding.

Re: I need some advice...
We are doing no children, which was a fairly easy decision because we don't have any family that is young enough to be a FG or RB. I think kids at the Reception are obnoxious and take away from everyone's fun. Haha that sounds terrible. I love children, but I would just rather have a kid-free wedding!

We are allowing 'certain children' I know itsounds horrible. ... but we don't have too many children in the family.. so only the 4 children that are closest( 2 of which are the ring bearer and flower girl) are allowed at the reception.... and no one else..
We also thought about hiring a babysitter.. to be up in the bridal suite or something like that.. but we haven't decided on that yet!

Re: I need some advice...
there a so many children in my family that we decided to do a 'no children' wedding BUT we are allowing the kids in the bridal party and their siblings (i cant choose one brother or sister over the other) and our out of town family (which isnt many) with children will be invited also. I didnt want to pick and choose BUT most people will understand that weddings cost a fortune nowadays.

Re: I need some advice...
i feel your pain, but i can't help you... my sister got married almost 3 years ago and didn't have kids at her wedding (i think it was cut off at HS school and higher) and it caused a HUGE fight in the family. when i got engaged, my parents made it clear that i didn't have a choice in the matter... i just really don't think that a wedding (especially an evening wedding) is a place for children. and especially my little cousins.... they're terrors!! and the worst part is that their parents don't watch them... just let them go wild.
hahaha sorry.... i guess i had to get that out!

We're doing the same thing for certain children. All FH's cousins are very young so they will be invited and then our few out of town guests with children. Our RH has a few bridal suites so I was thinking of setting one up for the kids but nothing has been decided yet.

Re: I need some advice...
What about hiring a baby sitter to stay with the kids in the bridal suite after the ceremony?
Or the in-laws coming to pick them up after the ceremony, that would definitely work too ... or maybe whomever your FSIL uses for a sitter would be able to watch all 4 kids after the ceremony?

I feel exactly the same, so now I dont know if I shouldn't have any of the kids in the wedding because I dont want her to feel obligated just in case she'd rather find a sitter down here. They don't know anyone on long island.

Re: I need some advice...
I am having an adult reception but I will allow my 2 nieces and 3 nephews who are my flower girls/ ring bearers / jr. groomsman attend the reception, if my sister and brother want them there. The invitation is open to them as they are part of the wedding. As for everyone else, I say no kids but we will see what happens as we get closer to the reception. I smell drama LOL

Ok well i hate saying this but we've decided to let kids go to the RH. I don't want drama and here are so many kids in the family.

And we'll try to keep them occupied by having some line dances and a kiddie activity basket.

Good for you! If you really don't want them there put your foot down, but remember some people might get mad. If you are ok with that, then stick with it.

Re: I need some advice...
The only children at my wedding will be my flower girl & ring bearer which happens to be my niece & nephew!
I think a compromise like that for your FH maybe better. At least it wont cause any arguments & it wont make your FSIL feel like she is renting a tuxedo & flying the kid out there to not be at the reception? Think about it.

Re: I need some advice...
I have an age limit 10 and over. Except for my FG she will be 9. I really only have 1 problem with FH's Uncle because one kid can come and the other cant, his wont be even be 4!! I work with young kids everyday and want MY wedding to be young kid free. He isnt close with him so I am not that worried about it and since this is the aunt that decided not to make my dress.........too bad, what goes around comes around. Did that just sound mean, oh well
