i am so upset that the night of our wedding is Game 6 of the world series. people keep mentioning it to me - does nobody realize how stressed i am already??????? i feel like after 17 months of work, i am going to be upstaged by a baseball game. on top of everything else, one of my BM called last night to tell me that her hubby will be leaving right after dinner as there is no way he can miss game 6!! i feel that everybody is going to leave right after dinner.
of all the little things that get us stressed, this is the one thing i never anticipated. at this point, i am praying for a major storm that day so the game will be cancelled.

people can be so insensitive! i cannot believe that people would bother you about that. hey, maybe they will do it in less than six games. who knows. try not to think about it, i am sure you have a lot more important things to be worried by!

Re: I need some cheering up!
see if you can get a tv or something to show it. i went to a anniversery party on game 4 of the ws in 99 and they had a tv in the cornor sent up to watch it.

they might not make it to game six, but if they do see if you can get a TV set up. You can make light of the situation and people will appreciate it - maybe get some of the team pinnies and put them in the bathroom, its great fodder for a toast, and you can have your band/DJ give score updates - maybe even play a few secs of take me out to the ball game - if you find some cute funny things to incorporate about the game people will remember your wedding far more than the average event.

Ugh...that stinks...sometimes people are just so rude. Leaving a wedding after dinner because of a baseball game?!?! That's ridiculous....
I do like what NYCMeghan has suggested...that may keep your guests there longer and since they can look at the tv every once in a while, that should satisfy them.
I'm so sorry about this.

Re: I need some cheering up!
i don't know if i'd want a tv set up in the corner- all my guests would be glued to it then! but i like the idea of your dj/band announcing updates.
don't worry about it though- i think people are just teasing (for the most part) so try not to let it get to you. they'll all be around on your day.

You Poor Dear!!!!!!!
Meghan's very right though. Set up a TV in the corner. OR have the DJ/Band give regular updates.
It only takes 4 games to win the Series though, there is always the chance that it could end after 4 or 5 games (and that's not SO farfetched - It's been done MANY times).
LOL, Now I think I know why FH was SO opposed to getting married in October!!!!

Re: I need some cheering up!
How can your BM say her husband will leave - we don't even know who is in the world series yet!!!! So who knows if his team will even be there....And who knows if it will even be played on that day - due to weather, who wins what, etc. And lastly if he's a Yankees fan (as am I so I know...), hasn't he seen it all before???? Do NOT let it bother you - it could actually be fun to have the wedding and have the game going on at the same time with band giving updates - people will get into it. No one should leave early, that's just rude!

Some nerve people have leaving early for a game 6. That's ridiculous!! Maybe there won't be a game 6...maybe one team will sweep in 4!!!! HA...then what!!! NO GAME 6!!! Sorry...got a little carried away....first I'd mention to my 'friend' that you'd be upset that her husband was leaving early for a game....ya think the Yankees have been to the World SEries enough times that it's nothing new. What about setting about a tv in the bar area? Is that an option or am I being tacky??? I'm a baseball fan and I'd do it for mine if I had to...I know, I'm wierd. Definitely pray for a sweep and no game 6...you don't want a storm if it's in NY cuz then it might rain on your wedding day!!

I like what NYCMeghan said. Maybe incorporate something of the game.

hrmm
A) Leaving for a game is very very very tacky in my opinion.
B) Love the idea of making it part of the wedding in a fun way though.
C) My FH is a HUGE Yankee fan, if it were us, he'd almost remember the whole wedding based on the game. Went to so & so's wedding.. Yankees lost, but we had a great time or Went to so & so's wedding.. It was great and even the Yankees celebrated.
Bottom line though, in my opinion, I'd be pissed as HELL if a guest knowingly shows up to just eat my food and then leave. Hell if I mean so little, don't bother showing up. Get a hotdog and plant your fat butt in front of the TV my fine friend cause Im not letting you ruin my wedding!
Then again, I do get emotional from time to time.

Re: I need some cheering up!
I'm sorry but leaving right after dinner for a Yankee game thats so rude! My FH is a huge Yankee fan and I would never let him leave a friends wedding because of a game. Your friend needs to put her foot down. Don't these people realize that its YOUR wedding day. I went to a wedding where the World Series was on and every few innings the DJ announced the score. It worked out well because they were winning everyone was very happy and cheering on the dance floor.

Don't stress out. I would NEVER allow my DH to leave to watch the game. He could TAPE if for all I care. I'm sure you will NOT be upstaged by the game. Your wedding will be great, and the people that matter will be happy for you and stay through the end.
Hugs to you. Chin up !!!

I am sorry. If I were you I would NOT get a TV for the game. Do you really want a bunch of people starring at the tv all night. This is your wedding, IMO who give a cr*p about the game.
And if my BM called to tell me that her hubby was leaving right after dinner, I would tell her to tell him not to bother coming at all. JMO

Re: I need some cheering up!
I have to agree w. lullabella, I would not set up a TV at all. I find that men are like magnetically attracted to a TV whenever it shows baseball, its like they cannot help themselves.
DH is a HUGE Red Sox fan (OK, so no one is perfect ) and the Yankees/RedSox series was the weekend of our wedding. And he missed all the games, and did not mind a bit. I am sure your guests will get over it, I cannot imagine anyone would be that tacky to leave your wedding to watch a baseball game. Especially when they dont even know whos playing yet, or if there will even be a game! I am surprised at your BM, I would never let DH walk out of a friends wedding to watch baseball, thats just rude IMO.
Dont worry, this is like the weather-you cannot control it, and it may not even be an issue. Believe me when I tell you, on your wedding day you will be so happy, so in love, so in awe of everything the day means, you wont even notice if some rude people leave early. My cousing brought her 5 yr old to my adults only reception. I didnt even notice until I saw the pics. You will have a wonderful day no matter what!!

I don't know what you are worried about, the yankees will win in 5 games anyway.

Re: I need some cheering up!
Karen, I wouldn't worry about it. If people want to leave, that is the TACKIEST thing I've ever heard! Apparantly they are not even worth being there! It's JUST a game!
I wouldn't set up a tv, but maybe there is a bar at your hall where people can pop in to see the score from time to time.
My father is a HUGE Yankees fan and he's already telling me that my wedding (this Sunday) is a World Series game! He will be taping it!!! Which is what any decent person will do! Come on!
People are just so RUDE! And for your friend to tell you her bf (was it bf?) is leaving, is rude of her for even mentioning it!
I'm sorry you're worried about this. I wouldn't! Just enjoy your day and everything will be GREAT!

Re: I need some cheering up!
Karen,
I feel for you. One week before my wedding I though a hurricane would hit us and there would be no wedding. Your situation sucks! But, I must say I disagree with a few people on here. I WOULD NOT put a TV up at your wedding at all. That is going to encourage bad and tacky behavior. This is a formal wedding, not a bar. If people want to watch tv on your day, fxxx them!!!! I am sorry, but this is your day and if people don't want to be there for you, that is disgusting!!! I have never heard of something so rude! If you put up a tv, all of the guys will think they are at the 'ballpark' and act that way. Guys will huddle together and watch and be encouraged to do so and won't dance with their ladies and enjoy the night you put so much effort into. This is a lovely, classy affair.... NO TV'S.

Re: I need some cheering up!
I would not put a TV up either (maybe arrange for score updates). You don't want all the guys (and girls) hovering over it and no one dancing and enjoying what they paid for.
If someone had the nerve to say that a game is more important, i'd say...Don't come!!! Or,,,,Are you related to one of the player, that you have to see them play, or is this the dark ages and you have no VRC. And forget it if it's a 'playoffs fan', then I 'd flip at where they have been all year. That is soooooo insensative of people!!!!

Re: I need some cheering up!
That is very rude that your friend told you her husband plans on leaving after the dinner to see the game. I understand there are sports fanatics but there will be many more games and many other times for the Yanks to win the WS again. There will be only 1 wedding for you.
I hope the Yanks win it before they get to game six!
