I need some help from you 07'ers - Tough Bridal Party situation
Original post by MrsBrags7706
Hi Girls,
An 06'er here...For those of you who had their weddings-many congrats. For the upcoming weddings, good luck!
I do have a problem....and I need help! My cousin who is 1 year younger than me is engaged and asked me to be in her bridal party for her May 08 wedding. I didn't have her in my BP, but she asked me, so I accepted. She made it sound like we were going to shop for so many dresses, but when it came down to it, she basically in not so many words said this 1 dress was the dress and that was it. It was form-fitting [which I have no problem with] but it clinged all over [I'm not hevay but curvy, and short] so I think it would look better on someone that was 5'9 or 5'11 and a TWIG!, not for someone who is short & curvy. Additionally, it WAS halter but not the thicker halter strap which I feel more comofrtable in and bustier. The wost part is that - starting near the boob area, and going down to the stomach there are HOLES in the dress, bare holes, in which their putting 1 material of sheer in it, which will basically do nothing. I cannot wear a strapless bra [I always feel more comftorable with a bra than without]. So I just told her that I didn;t think she needed to rush into it and buy it 9 1/2 months before her wedding and she should look around more especially in the Fall when new styles for Spring come out. Needless to say, she said 'well I like it' with her MOH agreeing. Then, we walk over to my car, she says hello to my DH who is waiting in the car for me, and she said to him that I was uncomfotorable in the dress & didn't like it. So saying that, she knew about my discomfort and self-consiousness and she just ignored it. Then the following day she called me and said she bought all 4 dresses and that was it. I became a bit annoyed with her over the phone because I firmly believe that she should have brought all the girls down there to try on different styles of dresses and even so - if she would have asked me at least once- 'do u feel comfortable in this?' and also told me even if it was the dress, and thats it, she didn't have to buy it, now she expects the $ asap. How does she know that I wasn't using a credit card where I wouldn't have to worry about paying for it for 7 weeks? I mean, she knew my circumstances because I was out of work for a while, just got back, and money was tight.....I was overall very annoyed with her and I feel very uncomfortable in the dress & I really do not want to wear it! I know when it came down o my wedding, I brought all my girls down their and made sure they felt comfortable in it, and I even had the change the skirts a couple times, but their comfort was most important to me!]
I REALLY need you're girls help! Furthermore, this is the dress. Lastly, I don't think it's AT ALL appropriate for a wedding. It's not even considered a bridesmaids dress.
Re: I need some help from you 07'ers - Tough Bridal Party situation
WOW, IS not the word. I can't find a word for that dress. I agree with you... It's not appropriate for a wedding. I wouldn't even wear that to a club. You need to really let her know how you feel and tell that you don't mined being in her wedding but you don't like how the front (or what ever part) of the dress is made.
I would be honest with you, if it was me I would not be in the wedding.

Oh lordy, please tell me she is just kidding...I've seen strippers bare less skin! I would tell her thanks, pay for the dress, and then sell it on ebay...don't even get into it with her, but seriously, there is this thing called MODESTY...a wedding is a sacred event, so unless she is having it at a fancy strip club or a local Hooters the dress is HOLEY (get it ) inappropriate! Also, if she is being married in any sort of religious ceremony, I would imagine the officiant might have a slight problem with the side boob thing! Run, don't walk, while you can!

I would drop out of the wedding, and i would tell her exactly why i was dropping out. It's not b/c you don't love her, and it's not b/c the dress is ugly, it's because the dress is not suitable for you. you arent comfortable, and also the fact that she knew how uncomfortable you were and she bought it anyway... all of that seems to be a bit of a lack of respect for her bridesmaids.
as far as the dress itself goes... i just hope she's not having a church wedding

That may very well be the worst dress I have ever seen. It's more than a simple 'I don't like the dress you've picked out'; that dress is inappropriate for any event I can think of, other than a stripper convention in Vegas. I would gladly pay $65 to not have to wear that horrific thing. I agree with PP, pay the money, and get the hell out of Dodge. So sorry for you!!!

At first I was thinking that it was rude of her to not give any consideration to the feelings of her BMs, but if she's important to you, you should suck it up & wear it graciously because it's important to her. Then I saw the dress...
Please tell me she's joking?! That dress is in no way appropriate for a BMs dress unless trashy is the theme she's going for! I'm with you 1000000% on this one. If she refuses to listen, then I'd day you should back out.

OMG.. that dress was made for a hooker's wedding.. No offense.. what is she THINKING?? I can understand why you would be uncomfortable in that dress.. to be honest, if you don't need to be in this wedding, would it kill you not to be? It's just a thought... Hope it works out for you..
I completely agree. I am not wuite sure when that dress would be appropriate? The MTV Movie Awards, maybe
I know it is her day, but the dress is a bit ridiculous. You have to do what makes you feel comfortable.

That's not a bridesmaid's dress, that's a club dress, and would not look good on anyone who has boobs more than an A cup.
Tell your cousin that you're really sorry, you do want to be a bridesmaid, but you cannot wear that dress. It's not even a style question (although it is!) but that there's no way you can even put a bra on underneath, and you have to wear a bra. If it is from David's, she should be able to exchange it, I think. Could you bring your aunt and mom into this? Maybe they'll help by backing you up. As someone else said, even if you have to pay for the awful thing, it's better than being humiliated by wearing it.

I wonder if she's wearing of those Demetrios dresses that look more like lingerie on top--have you guys seen them? They have a top that is opaque, but then the midriff area is transparent, so it looks like a bra with some lace underneath, or like someone wearing a merry widow and a skirt. I saw one in a magazine that looked almost exactly what I looked like for my prom: but without my prom dress! It's what I looked like in just the long-line bra and white crinoline slip before I finished getting dressed. I bet a lot of brides look like that without their gowns. I showed one to my husband and he thought that's what it was, the underthings for a gown. Then of course he said he liked it. Men!

That dress is totally inappropriate for a BM. I would tell her that it is. She should have consulted with all of her BM B4 picking out that dress and made sure everyone looked good in it.
