I need some motivation

I need some motivation

Ok all..>I gained alot of weight in the last few years and it has been really hard for me to take it off. My wedding is in three months and I feel this week has really set me back...I just had FH take apicture of me in the clothes I am going out in tonight and I look disgusting....I have been working out three times a week and trying to watch what I eat and drink,...but I know I can be doing better. FH doesn't help, plus we live together so when I cook for him, I eat what he eats too. I need some words of wisdom and motivation to get me going...do you think it is impossible to lose 20 lbs in 3 months? I will even settle for 15...I feel like such a heffer....

feeling blue on New Year's Eve......

Don't feel blue. Here

20lbs is doable if you really put your mind to it. I know I have to do the same starting tomorrow. If it's any consolation I have a few weeks less than you and I plan on doing it. I too am really unhappy at how I look at the moment.

My advice, enjoy tonight and change your mindset starting tomorrow.

it is possible trust me...a few years ago i lost 30 pounds in 3 months, so it can be done...Dont get yourself down...next time dont sit there and think oh should i exercise and contemplate it, just say thats it i will do it and get up then and there, work out 5 times a week if you can...The key is 6 days of the week to dedicate yourself completely, a trainer said this...On the 7th day usually you should pick a sunday, indulge a little and treat yourself...at first i used to eat so much on sunday when i treated myself, but after a while your body gets used to eat healthy food and smaller portions so i couldn't even do it.

ANother thing that helped was everytime i did want to eat something i shouldn't i would think of a certain occasion or vacation coming up and looking horrible, and i would just say to myself i would rather look the way i want to look than eat the food. You have great motivation-A WEDDING, so everytime you want to eat something, picture what you can look like if you dont eat it. Its something you really have to get into yourhead, bc its all a mental thing.

also do research on what foods are good to eat, theres some foods that even help burn calories and wont store fat. Read up alot on this and it will help.

also dont starve yourself...Actually the less you eat the slower your metabolism works, the more you eat its like a muscle it will work faster. So eat more meals a day and smaller portions...Always eat breakfast bc it will give you more energy throughout the day and at night you wont crave such big meals. Then have a snack, eat lunch a snack and then dinner. Try to eat more fattening food for breakfast and lunch rather than dinner like most people...this way you have more time during the day to burn the calories. A small tip is oranges are a great snack, they fill you up and will hold you over until your next meal.

Good luck and you can do it, dont let this bring you down. If you have any questions or need help with anything fm me anyting.

Yes, it's VERY doable! You just have to truly WANT to do it. If you have that mindset, then anything can happen!

Keep doing what you're doing right now, but try to add an extra day in your workout routine.........also, maybe add more time onto your cardio. Try to eat as much healthy food as you can. Maybe start your days with oatmeal and fruit. VERY easy and fast to make! Also, when cooking your meals, try switing from butter (if you use that) to smart balance butter. It's healhier. Things like that.

Oh and be sure to drink LOTS of water!!!

You can do it! Also, keep that picture of yourself.....the one that your FI took of you. If you don't like the way you look in it, then use that as your motivation!!!!

Re: I need some motivation

I hear ya girl! The suggestion the other girl gave about doing 100% 6 days a week and taking one day off works - FH lost 100 lbs doing that. I on the other hand can't motivate myself. For example, today I went to the gym and did cardio for 60 mins. Then I came home and ate chocolate! Its will power and it is totally mind over matter! I didn't want the chocolate but I ate it anyways. Just stick with it - I am sure you will be a beautiful bride!

WOW congrats to your fh, that is great...If you didnt eat too much chocolate its ok dont get yourself down. The trick is to try not to have these things in the house....go to the supermarket and get like good stuff you should eat and snacks so this way even when you want it, it's not there...And yes you will be a beautiful bride.

Oh also wanted to add that pilates helped me ALOT...not only do you lose weight and you lose it quick with pilates but it also sculpts your body, you get long lean muscles and nice definition. It is such a great work out...but they also say not to keep doing the same exercise over and over bc you will just keep working the same muscles the exact same way to each time and thats not good...After a while too your body gets used to it and wont burn as much, so mix it up...kickboxing and boxing are great too...also running

aw don't beat yourself up about it!! you'll get it off...I lost 15 lbs last year (now i gained it back) but heres what worked for me:
1.Try to eat 6 small meals everyday!! its speeds up your metabolism
2. Eat breakfast everyday!
3. do about 3-4 cardio workouts a week (running, speed walking, etc.)
4,. Read labels..avoid trans fats and foods high in salt (they make you retain water) and cholestorol
5. Whatever you do...DONT SKIP MEALS!
Hope that helps

Re: I need some motivation

Thats right tomorrow starts the full time workout schedule. Tomorrow I am starting working out 6 days a week. What helps keep me motivated is that I need to go on a HM and will hate being in a bathing-suit with the extra weight. I also like to see pics of myself when I was xtra skinny working out 5-6 days and eating healthy. you really have to want to lose the weight. Stay strong. You will feel better about yourself if you drop some weight. You can do it.

Re: I need some motivation

You have to stop beating yourself up first, then stop feeling sorry for yourself. You are putting why to much energy into this in a negative way, turn it around and tell yourself you can & will do this. I promise you that as of January 1, 2007 if you start walking after dinner, in the mornings or afternoons, as long as you do it at lease 3 times a week. It does get easier. I love weight watchers they can help. I find it helpful it I make a large salad, Jello & Fruit around SO when I want to snack I grab these items instead of chips and all theses other quick bits items that get me in trouble. If you make a promise to yourself you are going to do this you will. I believe in you now you have to believe in yourself. I loss 40lbs, and I still go up & down 5-10lbs, but I know it's only when I am feeling blue & stresses, I seem to eat all the foods that just make me feel worse. You can do this.

Re: I need some motivation

you can absolutely lose 15-20 in 3 mnths! dont worry :) there is no better motivation than a wedding! i would cut the BAD carbs, dont drink soda or sugar drinks, nothing fried, do cardio almost every day, eat alot of small meals packed with good carbs and protein, its totally possible! not sure what you like to eat but i would eat grilled chicken, salmon, turkey, salad with oil/vinegar (or just keep the dressing light),veggies, nuts, fruit..
lots of luck! dont stress too much but if you watch what you eat, it'll just happen!! Have a great wedding!!!! (and splurge w/ food on your h'moon!) btw- where is your reception? (if you dont mind me asking)

Re: I need some motivation

I don't know if 20lbs is doable for you but you can definitely make a huge improvement in your appearance in just three months - no problem!

I love eating and drinking!!! And I worked out with a trainer for 3 months twice a week (on average) before our wedding and it made a huge differince!

I am going on vacation the third weekend of February - so if you want a motivational partner - I am here to help!!!!

Re: I need some motivation

Every time you read an article in a fitness magazine, they tell you that a safe, doable amount of weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week. So 3 months, that's 13 weeks or so, that's 20-26 pounds if you're really trying. You can do it! The only times I've really lost weight in the past have been when I've had a very specific goal - I'd be out at dinner and think, 'appetizer and main course? when I have that bikini to fit into next month? Just the main course, thank you'. That's what you need to do - every time you need to make a food choice, picture yourself in your wedding gown. then, you'll make the right choice.

Good luck! You can do it!

Re: I need some motivation

It's definitely doable - healthy weightloss is 1-2 lbs a week, so in 3 months you have about 12 weeks - so at 2 lbs a week, you could, theoretically, lose 24lbs in 12 weeks.
Now, don't be disappointed if you only lose maybe 15 or so - that makes a HUGE difference.

The best advice I can give you, actually, is to check out this website: www.sparkpeople.com
It's a free website, you can log all of your food intake and it will calculate the calories, etc, for you, log your exercise and it will calculate calories burned, you can get daily emails of your choice, from healthy recipes to exercise tips to motivational articles, and, best of all there is a great support network there through their message board community. It's really great. It will even make meal plans for you, complete with shopping lists. I don't use the meal plans because I don't do all of my own cooking - I'm living with my parents right now - but when I move out I definitely will.
There are people on the site who have lost 10, 15, 20lbs, and there are people there who have lost 100+lbs and still going. It's definitely been a HUGE help and inspiration for me as I begin really commiting myself to a healthy lifestyle.

Good luck!

Re: I need some motivation

Hey Girl!

I am in the same boat as you. I am getting married on April 28, 2007. From September my goal was to be 20lbs lighter and I am still the same weight. What makes me upset is that I will lose like 5 pounds and then think to myself that I can treat myself to something because I lost the weight. That whole vicious cycle starts again.

So tomorrow Tues 1/2/07, I am really going to put my heart and soul into it. Just think we have a good couple of months to really make a difference. I would love to drop 35 pounds by April.

Together lets focus on one day at a time, as one day of good eating and exercise can make a difference.

I think you and I definitely want to wake up on the morning of our wedding feeling great!!

Lets communicate when ever we feel we need to, to do this together!!!

We are the ones that have control of this!

Getting Skinny,

Christine
