I need some motivation

Original post by Marchbride07

Ok all..>I gained alot of weight in the last few years and it has been really hard for me to take it off. My wedding is in three months and I feel this week has really set me back...I just had FH take apicture of me in the clothes I am going out in tonight and I look disgusting....I have been working out three times a week and trying to watch what I eat and drink,...but I know I can be doing better. FH doesn't help, plus we live together so when I cook for him, I eat what he eats too. I need some words of wisdom and motivation to get me going...do you think it is impossible to lose 20 lbs in 3 months? I will even settle for 15...I feel like such a heffer....

feeling blue on New Year's Eve......

Re: I need some motivation

I feel your frustration.

Last January I joined Jenny Craig and I have lost 25 pounds in the last year...my goal is to loose 20 more this year before my wedding in December. It is very doable..I would sign up for a program like Jenny Craig or WW so that you have some added support to your weight loss. The girls at JC are great and have helped me so much. Best of luck to you!

You can definetly lose the weight you want to. Work hard, add new exercises, try and cut out most of your alcohol intake, cut back on carbs, and drink tons of water. It is all a mind set. I know you can do it, not it's just up to you to actually do it.

I think its doable- and I wanted to second the recommendation for www.sparkpeople.com- such a great site.

You might also want to check out the Discovery Channel's national body challenge- they give you a free trial membership at Bally's and tons of great advice. Even the Knot.com has a good Getting in Shape board, which I find helpful.

good luck

Doctors put me on a 1300 calorie South Beach Diet before the wedding for medical reasons. I thought it would be hard, but no!!!!! Phase 1 of the diet only lasts 2 weeks, it is very unhealthy to do it longer than 2 weeks. I lost 20 pounds in the 6 weeks before the wedding. FM me if you'd like more info.

ps - if you (or anybody else) decides to check out sparkpeople.com (which, again, I highly recommend!) feel free to add me as a friend - I'm 'whenmostiwink' over there
I have one 'workout buddy' on the site who I check in with once every week or so, and it definitely helps - so I'm always looking for more! And that's another thing I recommend - find a buddy who is motivated and will help to motivate you!

You can do it!!!

Working out will do wonders - for weight loss, an hour of cardio at least 3 times a week will help. When I first trained, my trainer had me doing an hour of cardio 6 times a week and weight training 3 times a week. Can I just say, I dropped 3 sizes in less than 2 months!! Weight training is a HUGE factor in that. Building muscle will just melt everything away faster than you can imagine!

I'm not the best dieter (one reason I am SO GLAD the holidays are over!), but one trick I use is to never buy any junk for the house. If I want snacks, I buy animal crackers and pretzels, and if I must have ice cream I get those skinny cow ice cream sandwiches. Portion sizes are key too!

Good luck! You have lots of support here!!

This is a great idea. After reading the first post, I was thinking that maybe Ron could set up a 'Brides Getting Fit' board, or something like that and we could all post on there. Anyone else think that's a good idea? Maybe I'll start a thread and see how it goes....

Re: I need some motivation

THANK YOU SO MUCH GIRLS! I love this site, I just came home late after a long New Year's Eve and New Years Day and when I sat down and I read all this, it really got me going. Thank you all for the kind words and words of encouragement...I am totally committed this point forward! When I am not totally exhausted I am going to re-read this post and respond to you all!

By the way, I work with a personal trainer doing Core excersises once a week and then I do kickboxing twice a week (same guy Wilson's Martial Arts if any of you live near Glen Cove is effin awesome!) And my godmother just bought me a Pilates ball and workout for Xmas so I will be adding that into the routine. FH and I were talking on the car ride home and he is actually going to stat trying to help me (he does the food shopping...what a man I got! He actually loves it) so he will not be bringing home the chips and dip anymore..>I def need to stock up on healthy foods though...

Anyways..>Thank you all so much, I can't wait to re-read this again tomorrow with my notepad in hand taking down notes!
