I need to get my ring dipped before the wedding...

Any suggestions on where I can take it? I'm not sure about going back to the place FH bought ring from (I've become very protective of my diamond!)...

and the place where we bought wedding bands doesn't do it...

I want somewhere where they do it in front of me...

any suggestions (suffolk preferred)

Thanks!!!

What does ring dipping mean?

If you mean cleaned, polished, etc, I know Kay's does this as they have sjined mine on more than one occasion.

With a white gold (rhodium) ring, they actually dip it in the white gold and it recoats the gold surfaces...

Never heard of this? Why does this need to be done? To make it look new? I have white gold.....I'm curious.

I'd never heard of it before LIW either...Ha Ha...

They take your ring (or other white gold jewelry) and dip it in rhodium (white gold). It recoats the surface and makes it shiny and new...

I get mine done at the Attias Flea Market.

The dipping is good if the ring isn't solid white gold. If it was dipped originally, usually that means the it is originally yellow gold. After a while the white starts to wear off from the wearing of the jewelery and the yellow starts to come through. This shouldn't happen to often the layer should be thick enough to last a few years.
I don't know of a jeweler who will do it in front of you though. The process normally takes a while.
Try Zales, I know they do dip jewelry, I just don't know how much it costs.

There is no such thing as pure white gold....ALL white gold is yellow gold that is dipped in rhodium...After normal wear, you might be able to see the yellow coming through so that is why people get it re-dipped...I just had my rings done.

i have a great jeweler (gennaro jewelers), but it's in bellmore. from the moment they take your ring, you watch everything they do firsthand. they even examine your diamond to find an identifying mark and project it up on a screen so you know it's your diamond.

when they resized my white gold engagement ring, i watched the entire process, from them cutting it open to size it, to dipping it, to polishing it, etc.

let me know if you want their address. i would definitely recommend them!

I went to JE Lund Jewelers in Garden City on Franklin Avenue. I LOVE these guys!! They had to resize my ring for me and had no problem with me staying in back with them for like 40 minutes while they did it. Then they dipped it for me and cleaned it so much that I have never seen my ring sparkle that much! I'm def going there before the wedding to get it done again!

I did get it dipped once at Attias Flea Market- they did a good job too, but it didn't sparkle quite as much as the other place.

This could happen quicker for some people depending on the acidity of their skin. The more acid-y your skin is the quicker it will wear away.
