I need to get on my soapbox now....
I know I always post a lot of funny things that go on at my job, but it only takes 1 sad thing to completely burn my azz and get really upset.
People abuse vitamins and dietary supplements and dismiss them as trivial and harmless. And while that is sometimes the case, there are some vitamins and supplements that are very powerful and are only sold OTC due to FDA loopholes. It is always in your best interest to read the labels, consult with your DR, and research the supplements either on your own or with a nutritionist. And don't ever give vitamins to someone under 18 unless you have DR permission, and even then, do your research to make sure it would be suitable for a child.
Melatonin is a natural hormone that your body produces to help aid with sleep. There is a maximum limit of only 6mg and nothing more than that is recommended if you are supplementing with it.
All of that brings me to a mother who gave melatonin to her 2 YEAR OLD SON WHO OVERDOSED ON 40 MELATONIN PILLS AND IS IN CRITICAL CONDITION.
Please, always be cautious and aware, and take your health very seriously. You only get one body, treat it right. Be concerned and informed about what you put it into it. Question your DR, do your research, call me if you need to know about vitamins...don't ever self-medicate and always take you health and the health of children seriously. This mother was looking for a quick fix to her cranky 2 year old and is now being charged with abuse, neglect, endangerment and a slew of other charges for her idiotic act.
I cannot stress this enough...this is how I ended my day at work and I wished I could have jumped through the phone to strangle the mother who so carelessly endangered her child's life.
OK, off my soapbox now...back to your regularly scheduled programming![]()
