I need to grow a backbone and stand up to people....
So my cousin calls my house tonight (while I was happily at Silver Fox) and tells my brother that she will be coming to my e-party with one of her children and that her husband will be attending a family party for his side with their other child!! SHe also leaves the same message on my cell phone...why I don't know!
Ok DO PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THAT CHILDREN ARE NOT INVITED IF IT IS ADDRESSED TO MR AND MRS???? FIrst of all this whole thing about her husband having a family function is BS...he never comes to any of our family functions but that is besides the point...I want to call back and be like I know you huband is going to be home anyway so why not just keep both kids home with him! But I won't say this because I can't confront people I hate this about myself!
ETS...this is the second person who has called and said that they are bringing a child along...this is not ok!!! I am afraid that these same people will pull this crap for my wedding!

I am the same way- steeling myself for it because we really can't have kids- What if you call her and just explain that you are not having kids and sorry that she misunderstood? Remember, this is not about other people- it's about you and your FI!

I thinkit is presumptuous and rude to bring a child if the name is not on the invitation. You may just have to call them and tell them that there will be no children. You don't owe anyone any explanations. It is an adult party.

And the thing is she will also stiff us on a gift too..she did this when I graduated from college and my brother graduated from the Police Academy we didn't get so much as a CARD!...Not that this party or any other party is all about getting gifts but its common courtesy if you are an invited guest to give a gift.

Maybe someone can mention something to her about not bringing any children. In a nice way but upfront. Did you say anything to your mom? Maybe she can help you out. I'm sorry but if this is happening for your engagement party who knows about the wedding. I ABSOLUTELY want no children at my wedding either. I know exactly how you feel.

You have to start standing up for yourself! If you don't say anything then where will you draw the line? I know it's not easy telling people 'Leave your kids at home', but you can kindly remind her that it is an 'adults only' affair when you return her call.

Kathleen-
I agree that you need to tell your cousin that children are not invited to the party. It's YOUR party and what you say goes! If you can't do it, maybe your mom or some other family member can call and politely inform her that her little ones are not welcome.
