I NEED TO KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY FEARFUL DRIVER OUT THERE

I was speaking with a friend of mine yesterday and she told me she no longer drives b/c she has become so fearful, she has had her license since she was 16 and now at 27, it has become a thing she fears doing. Do you or someone you know have a fear of driving?? I love to drive.

I hate driving - but I will do it anyway....I'm always the last to offer to drive, until I feel bad cause everyone else always offers!!

I won't drive in the city - for many reasons...

I wonder if they offer some sort of phobia rehabilitation of some sort...like they do for fear of flying...I wouldn't be suprised. I'm not sure where you would look, but it must be out there. Best of luck getting over this, I know it must be hard...

You long island ladies are something else, I watch the way you ladies drive and it is definitely not a city style of driving.

Tammy told Jen not to reverse or she would get a tkt for driving the wrong way. She told her to go around the block, b/c we had driven past her house. I have never heard of this, must really be a LI thing.

I used to love driving but I had a scrary driving trip from upstate that spooked me and a near miss shortly after so my love of driving vanished.

Now I dont mind it but dont enjoy it like I used to. Plus we just got a new car I have to get used to (suv vs car so I am a little intimidated by the difference in sizes) so I am just a little mess right now.

I hate driving. I am a good driver and cautious but I hate the speed demons, the ones who dont signal when changing lanes, the ones that run red lights, the ones who blast their radio's so loud they cant hear the horn beeping and all the 16 year olds who think they are so cool because they are driving. Its because of those individuals I dont like driving. Then add the potholes, cracks in the streets, cabs who dont obey traffic laws I dread having to drive.

Though when we are in FL I LOVE to drive down there.

I am so afraid to drive! I literally have panic attacks while I drive bc I am so afraid what all the morons on the road are going to do. I was also in an accident a few years ago-I was stopped at a red light and got rear ended by a drunk driver at full force. Ever since then I've been a wreck, but I still drive wherever I need to go, otherwise I'd be spending a lot of time at home!

See I understand the people that had a bad accident, but people like my mom that just chooses not to drive out of fear, it is crippling. My mom's friend car got hit by a truck and the next day was her road test to drive a truck, you know that women went right ahead and did her thing. I respect that.

Maybe all the fearful drivers should form a support group

I guess it's like people who have phobias - why are they afraid of heights, why are they afraid of snakes, closed spaces, etc...

I just read this thread and I am ROFLMAO at that reversing thing Shamma. OH MY GOD that is SO FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In Bay Ridge it's common place to drive backwards for 2 blocks if necessary to get a parking spot. Eroxgirl will know what I mean.

It is a common thing in Bklyn/NYC

Yes, I have personally driven around corners backwards to get to a parking spot. It's definitely a Brooklyn thang.

Love, love, love to drive!!! Could not live without my car! The last 2 times that DH and I went to New Hampshire I drove the whole back (400 miles) in one shot. DH drives like a little old lady right lane and no more than 5 miles an hour over the speed limit. YUCK!!!! I crank my CD player and off I go!!
