So, after 10 years, I am thinking of leaving teaching. I am starting to burn out and it really isn't fair to the children. I find that each year the children become harder to manage and have so many more problems than the year before. The sad part is that I am not sure what in the world I would do. This is the only thing I have ever done. Any suggestions.
Edited to say: I am not afraid of hard work or long hours. I will however miss my summers off!

What about staying in the same field, just not being a teacher? My best friend went from being a teacher to the Director of a Child Care center... maybe you could look into something like that, given your experience, or do you completey want out of the children field altogether? If not, I can recommend a website: www.brighthorizons.com. That's the company my friend works for, they place educators all over the country in various different jobs.

With a teaching background, you could go into educational book publishing...
Check out McGraw-Hill or Scholastic

I'm sorry you feel this way. Can I just ask why you think it's so bad? Hearing things like this scares me b/c I'm in Grad school (spending a pretty penny ) for Elem. Ed and I'm about to change my whole like to go into teaching. I hear things like this and it makes me have second thoughts (although I already put so much $$ into it)

Please don't leave teaching or even think that you are making the wrong choice! I have loved every year of teaching. I have enjoyed seeing my students learn and have rejoiced in their accomplishments. I have one student at Harvard and another at Yale this year! However, I am tired of the constant grading and the attitudes of some of my students. For example, I really love my 2 senior classes. They have such life and they love to learn and inquire about topics. I so look forward to those periods. Now, the other 3 periods. Lord help me. It is now October and they still don't bring a notebook to class. They don't care about learning. I have called guidance, parents, guardians, etc.....and we are going through the same stuff day after day. This is starting to bug me and drive me nuts! I think I need a break. I still love teaching, but we def need a vacation for each other! I do like the idea of staying in education in a different area! Thanks for the tip on BrightHorizons! That sounds like a good organization! Thank you most of all for allowing me to vent!
