whats in the bowl? is it a liner or something?

it wouldnt be a bad idea if I had a spare (rarely used) bathroom or something but I wouldnt want to share my every day bathroom with my kitties!

I have seen instructions on how to train your cat to do this online. I would love to, but I don't think I have the patience - seems like it takes a while. You start out first putting the litter box near the toilet, then sort of stack it on something to bring it up to the level, then over onto the toilet. But how cool would that be - not more stinky litter boxes!!
