I need to Vent

I need to Vent

Ok, I went gown hunting a couple of weeks ago and actually fell in love with a gown and purchased it. I Had to order my gown, as my size was not at hand. Anyway, my consultant told me that I should expect to get the call in February but no to be surprised if it comes in a bit early than that. She said, when I come back, I would get a second fitting and they would order a new size for me if necessary.

Well, it's 3 weeks later and I get the call. I know I should be happy but I AM NOT! You see, I've been working out with a personal trainer and I already lost 9 pounds and I am sure that by July, my dress will be way too big for me. So what do I do? Do I pick up the dress and pay hundreds to get it altered or should I try to get a smaller size?

What??? I've never heard of a dress coming in so early. The shops usually place the order with the designer and tell them your wedding date, so the designer can prioritize and make them in the order of when the wedding will happen, not when the gown was ordered.

So something weird happeened here. And it wasn't your fault. It's ridiculous to go for a fitting 9 months before your wedding. I say just keep it there at the shop and go for your first fitting in Feb./March like you should have all along.

If you already ordered it in that size wouldn't you have to buy a new one if you wanted a different size if your original dress already came in?

I would go in and try it on and show them that you are loosing weight--to order it in a smaller size

My consultant told me that when I came back in February if I needed a new size they would order a new one for me. But now that it's only 3 weeks later, I am certain that my weight loss now does not reflect what I will accomplish by February. I figured by Feb. I would be at closer weight to what I will weigh on my wedding day and I could just get have them re-order a smaller size for me as oppose to paying for alterations. By going in now, there wouldn't be much of a difference in the size that I originally ordered.

can you just tell them you need some time that you didn't think it would be in this early? because 3 weeks is very early for a dress to be in. Maybe they can work with you on that.

That's a great suggestion. I will definitely see if they can work something out with me.

i'm a little confused, why would they order a smaller size? why can't they just alter it? are they making you do the alterations right away?
