i need to vent

i need to vent

so fh and i both have big families... i compiled my guest list a little while ago just to get an estimate and was waiting on his mom to make hers... even though my room can hold 300 people, i really don't want to have more than 250-275 because i don't want it to look squished and have ppl on top of each other... i thought she was pretty much done with her list but fh is telling me that she keeps adding people! i havent seen it yet but it must be a total of over 300 between the both of us... i was cutting a few ppl out of my list to try to make it more fair, but if she keeps adding ppl it's going to get out of hand! i love her very much and couldnt ask for a better fmil but this is getting to be a little crazy...

In addition... i noticed that on her list she has a lot of 'and guests'... for people who do not even have significant others!

ok, my vent is over... sorry it was a little long!

when you say your room holds 300, do u mean you have to guarantee 300 or the occupancy of the room is 300?

Did you tell her the max # of guests she can invite? Maybe she hasn't realized that she went over. I would definitely talk to her (or have FH talk to her) and let her know that the room only holds so many.

I would just talk to her about it. My FMIL and I have a great relationship, so I tease her all the time that anything over 150 that show up, she is paying for. We have about an invite list of 200.

is FMIL paying for the wedding? if not, i would tell FMIL if she wants those extra guests then she will have to pay for them herself. all those extra people add up!

Heres what you can do. Make a Backup list, just in case you receive to many 'no's'. The additional people she added could be on that list. I would go through the list with her, pick out Family first, than friends, and than the friends that are just around whenever. Those whenever friends will be put on the back up list. That way, incase you have min., you won't have to worry about paying for plates that are useless.

I have to guarantee 250, which is not going to be a problem... the room has the ability to hold 300+, i just dont want that many people...

honestly this conversation could get a little touchy even if you try and say something in a jokeful way... I def. think that your FH should say something to his mom so she doesn't feel bad or accidently take it the wrong way, thats just what I would do.

i think your best bet is to wait it out & see what she comes up with. look over her list with FH & if you have never met the people before i think you should put them on your b-list.

don;t max out the room .....

that will be uncomfortable ... max occ at all tables ...

talk to her ... you have to draw a line.

I am going through this with FH mom ... she wants to let all bring thier kids ... and she says that people won't come if you don't allow the kids, but in the end she is only going nuts because she could only invite 30 people to her first sons wedding ....

Since we are paying for the wedding I told her I would prefer not to have some people there than to have kids at the party ...

just talk to her, it will only get worse!
