I need you help with my fiance/bridesmaid dresses

Okay I need a bit of Help....I have a question regarding color of bridesmaid dresses for a SUMMER wedding. I have always been told and assumed that summer weddings should be light bright colors. Am i right??? Okay here is the problem...my fiance is the BIGGEST Penn State Fan and all he wants is a semi- PSU wedding. Meaning...The big thing that he wants is the girls to wear Navy dresses. I wouldn't have problem with that at all but the wedding is in JUNE. Is it just me or can someone support me to tell him that Navy should NOT be worn in the summer! His reasoning is that you can brighten it up for the summer all with the flowers ....HELP ...haha he is impossible!!!

Also....do you think the tuxs would have to be a color other then black if i chose to give him the NAVY dresses....I am affraid we would look like a bunch of black and blue marks (a bruise)..haha

pics attached to support his obsession and my predicament...haha

Tiffany blue got my vote because its my color (as of right now) but I think Navy Blue would be a bit too dark for summer...its also your wedding, so do what you want!! But....if you have any tiffany blue ideas, let me know - i need them!!!

Start saying this...'My day, My way' Seriously. i think you should pick whatever color you want. You can do something with a navy accent like a nice tan with a navy sash.

I was going to do navy, but the BM dress I wanted didn't come in Navy and I was married June 25

If you like navy go for it I don't think there are any rules about color anymore. Just do what you want My vote is for the Navy

Were you goin to do NAVY dresses or a Navy accent? I enjoy the color Navy but I am just worried of it being tooo dark! He feels flowers can solve it all, to brighten it up!

you could do navy dresses if you wanted to...or use it as an accent color and do a grooms cake as a nod to fh

If it's important to your fiance, and your BMs have the right coloring and will look good in Navy, why not? They can carry beautiful light-colored flowers that will look very striking against a dark blue dress.

If your man is a typical fiance, he probably feels that he doesn't have a lot of input on wedding decisions... I think it might be a nice gesture to give him this one, especially if it fits in with your theme and your girls will look good in that color.

awwwweee.... you may be right! I know he would love it and he is the type to sit back and let me handle it. I know it would mean alot! Oh boy....you girls are twisting my arm here!!! Yicks, can't let him see that you girls are on his side ...all i will hear is 'I TOLD YOU SO'...haha
Thanks for the input though....loving all the ideas!

I was going ot do navy dresses.

If you choose a dress that is in a flowey material (chiffon) may take away from the 'dark' feeling of the color. Also, as you said, flowers can brighten and lighten!

Navy is totally an anytime of year color. Every spring it comes back with the annual 'nautical/preppy' trend. I think when you use Navy you really can brighten it up with flowers, you can do pinks/purples or peaches/oranges. I also think the black tuxes will look fine with Navy dresses.

(your FH did NOT put me up to this, I swear!)

well - I agree with the above post that said the right fabric would be more 'summery'....like a pretty chiffon, maybe that is tea length, or with a cool asymetrical bottom, might make navy look more summery...I think bill levkoff has a pretty navy chiffon...

BUT...remind fh that marriage is all about COMPROMISE!!!

Would he settle for, like, a cornflower blue - still not pastel, but DEFINITELY summery...see the Lazaro bridesmaid chiffon dresses, then look at the swatches to see the color -

and maybe you could tell him that they can play the penn state fight song when you guys are introduced into the reception...that might get him to settle down a little, and leave the important decisions up to YOU!!!

good luck!

actually, my friends wedding, the guys wore navy jackets with - I think ecru or tan pants, white shirts, and yellow ties - they had a little print on them...

TOTALLY SUMMER! and it looked so great!

Yes....I am already giving him the 'Penn State bounce' (the song they play at the games after every touchdown...crowd jumps up and down) to play to intro the bridal party into the reception. He is pretty excited for the navy and i did present the lighter blue colors but that didnt fly... i can't really complain he is leaving everything else up to me. Just really would luv a PSU theme (as far as color) wedding. He is also an alumni to boot!

The way I look at it, if FH gives input I take it to heart a little more than I would normally because most of his requests for this wedding is 'as long as you are happy' (meaning me). If he makes a decision and feels strongly enough to express it I work harder to fufil his request.

ETA: You can do whatever color you want, it's your wedding!!

if he want navy just wear a differeent sash throughit to lighten it up and it should be fine

If you don't want navy and you're having an outdoor wedding, say that navy is too dark of a color for outdoors. It'll absorb too much light and leave your girls overheated.
