Okay I need a bit of Help....I have a question regarding color of bridesmaid dresses for a SUMMER wedding. I have always been told and assumed that summer weddings should be light bright colors. Am i right??? Okay here is the problem...my fiance is the BIGGEST Penn State Fan and all he wants is a semi- PSU wedding. Meaning...The big thing that he wants is the girls to wear Navy dresses. I wouldn't have problem with that at all but the wedding is in JUNE. Is it just me or can someone support me to tell him that Navy should NOT be worn in the summer! His reasoning is that you can brighten it up for the summer all with the flowers ....HELP ...haha he is impossible!!!
Also....do you think the tuxs would have to be a color other then black if i chose to give him the NAVY dresses....I am affraid we would look like a bunch of black and blue marks (a bruise)..haha

I think lots of girls use rich colors in the summer and it looks beautiful. I've seen many posts with deep reds, blues, etc. even in satin. My daughter is using Euro Royal satin June 30.
I say if your FH is that interested, hug him and go with it!

What about using a lighter color and accenting it with a navy sash or shawl if you really don't want navy? Personally, I like navy and think it would look striking with the right color flowers! Depending on the look you're going for you could do some sunflowers or bright colored roses and it would be gorgeous! If you like navy I say go for it, but by the sad face next to your post it seems like you don't want navy in which case I'd work on the other color that goes w/ the school colors and accent w/ navy. My hubby didn't want to be involved in a lot of the planning (though I forced him! so I would def. give him this one if it's the only thing he really seems to have an interest in)

I think do whatever you two want. Its your wedding, use whichever colors will make the two of you happy. You can always lighten it up with light blue flowers and accents.

I think you can get away with navy dresses in the summer in the right material--like chiffon. Or, as other suggested, pick a lighter blue (like an ice blue) and bring in navy with other details--flowers or ribbon on bouquets. And pick a third color that's summery. I love blue and coral together.

There is no rule that says you can't wear navy in the summer. My girls are wearing brown at the end of May! I personally love navy and think with the right accents (pink, yellow, lavender, etc) it looks very summery.

If it's important to your fiance, and your BMs have the right coloring and will look good in Navy, why not? They can carry beautiful light-colored flowers that will look very striking against a dark blue dress.
If your man is a typical fiance, he probably feels that he doesn't have a lot of input on wedding decisions... I think it might be a nice gesture to give him this one, especially if it fits in with your theme and your girls will look good in that color.
I agree with this. I think that nowadays people go with whatever colors they want....rules are out the window! If you don't like navy , you could do navy accents, but I think it would look nice.
Also, the tuxes could still be black....just get navy vests and ties. I don't think you would look like bruises!

They sad face in the post is to emphasize on my frustration. I DO like navy but just worried on the summer color issue and it being tooo dark.....thanks for your input and suggestions!

I agree....go with the navy....rules are made to be broken and its your wedding and it seems to me its going to be extremely memorable for all involved!

Here's what I think...
girls in champagne or yellow tone with a navy sash... guys in blue tuxes
girls in navy with bright flowers (maybe tea length too would make it summery) and the guys in gray tuxes

I just wanted to let you know that I COMPLETELY relate!
I went this weekend to pick out BM dresses and I decided on a reddish (Christmasy) color. Well, when I told FH he FLIPPED out! We went to Ithaca College and Cortland State is our HUGE rival (shortymcbride will back me up here) so he was saying that he can't have red in his wedding and he won't let his guys wear red. So we compromised..his guys are wearing black tie and vest, with a reddish hankerchief.
I don't think Navy is bad for a June wedding, but if you don't like it, why don't you do a Tiffany blue with maybe some darker blue accents?

you know what....don't laugh! FH did already mention sending an invite to him (he knows where he lives in State College b/c he in alumni from PSU). He said, 'Hey i would just be happy if he RSVP with a NO........and if with a no response I will set a seat for him.' Guys and their sports!!!

I am getting married in April and my girls are wearing midnight blue and the guys are wearing charcoal gray tuxes. I think if you are having an evening affair you can definitely get away with a darker color.
And to be honest, I am just not a light pastel colored kind of girl. So even if I was getting married during the day, I still would have picked the midnight blue.

I was in two weddings in the summer where we wore Navy gowns. The brides did yellow sunflowers and gerber daisies to add a splash of color. As a BM I was very happy b/c the color is so flattering as opposed to a very light colored dress which can be enlarging.

I think navy looks great. I like the idea someone here suggested about the navy jackets, tan suit pants. If you want something more formal, what about a chocolate brown tux, or a champagne colored dress with navy accents. I wouldn't worry about the season, navy works all year.

I actually like the navy idea because it is something that means a lot to you and FH.
For me I would pick something like that rather than what people usually pick for the time of the year. But that is just what I would do. I am very sentimental and I loved incorporating both DH & I in our wedding. Whatever DH suggested and was important to him I pretty much did, because it is after all both of your weddings.
