I need your advice ladies!

I need your advice ladies!

Ok I'm the type of person that really hates asking for favors or anything at all. Last Monday, I started a new job, during the interview process I did not bother mentioning that I was getting married this October since I felt like it's too far away and I didn't expect that I would get the offer. Now that I'm almost done with my first week on the job, I want to inform my boss that I want to take a 1 1/2 weeks off. I always anticipate the worse, do you guys think that would be a problem, would it look unprofessional on my part? I'm so nervous to ask!

No, you have no choice, right? You have to ask, and probably sooner the better. I'm sure it will go fine!

IMHO I would mention that you are getting married in Oct and let your boss know the date. I would be vague about time off until you at least finish your 'probationary' time at your job. If I were you I'd feel more comfortable asking for more than a week off if I can prove that I am a good worker and make a good impression first. I wouldn't want to jepordize anything too soon. I wish you the best of luck! Congrats on the new job!

I agree with this- if you didn't mention it during the interviewing process you should wait until your probationary period is over.

You already have the job. I doubt they can do anything to you at this point.

100% agree...Give then a heads up then ask for the full amount of time come the summer. You don't want to ask now because you haven't had a chance to prove yourself, and they may say no to the full week and a half. Usually you have to wait 3-6 months before you can request time off so check to see if there is anything written in your employee's manual. Shame you didn't mention it before accepting the offer...I've done that a few times when I have something coming upand it's always worked out beautifully.

Thanks ladies! I asked him today, there's no probationary period for this company so I got lucky on that. He told me not to worry about taking time off because it's completely fine...sigh of relief!!! Now I can have a happy weekend! LOL
