Hi Ladies, I've been a lurker for some time now not really knowing if I should participate or not but now I have a huge issue and could use your expertise. I swear I am shocked by how much you girls really know about all of this. I booked my rh a while back and am now having second thoughts. I left a deposit of 5k and remembering reading something about Suffolk having a law about how much of your deposit they can really keep. Is there anything like that in Nassau? I really wish I could go into serious detail without you all about my situation but certain things keep me from being able to be open and honest about everything. I really like the venue but I have some issues. First being it's on Long Island. I like the island but I'm a city girl and have been in LOVE with the lighthouse and would like to find out more about that location. Second the dance floor at my venue is pretty small and I have about 275 crazy people that will utilize that floor all night. And again there are others I cannot discuss at this time b/c I am afraid of the lurkers who may work there. I know that doesn't make much sense but believe me it does. Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: I need your help
on your contract it should give you all the details to a cancellation policy at your hall, it will be on the back of the contract. Read it carefully and read between the lines. From what i remember with my contract, if we cancelled and they are able to book our date at equal or greater value then we get our money back but if they don't book or not of equal or greater value we lose our money and can even owe a percentage of the full balance.

From what I understand, Nassau does not have the same kind of laws so you are bound by your contract. You should try to have someone book your date on craigslist.

That would be a lot easier if I could find my contract. Believe me I am very organized and it's the one contract I cannot find. I almost feel like maybe it's a sign to just stick with it but I can't shake the anxiety that I won't be as happy settling. FMIL was the one who kind of steered me out of the city. She said it wasn't fair to OOTG to have to shell out the money to have to stay in the city. But we're getting married in early November and prices are cheaper in the city around that time. I've always had the yellow cab/subway wedding day idea in my head and I obviously can't have that on Long Island. Espo are you like the wedding guru? Seriously you're like the Dalai Lama of weddings.

I sent you a forum mail, but if you stick with your hall you can always do a 'day after shoot' with a photographer in NYC with the cabs/subway shots and then you dont have to worry about ruining your dress. It will give you the best of both worlds

Re: I need your help
I would try to see if you can get someone to take your date. Don't know if that is a problem since you do not have a contract. I have to be honest. When I go to weddings in the city it is a big hassle. If you are not from the city and you drive in you have to worry about parking. I had to pay $300 a night in Novemeber for a friends wedding in the city and for out of town guests who had to be there for the rehersal dinner that was like $600. Plus, plane and gift. But, if it is your dream to have it in the city and you think you will always regret it. Go with your gut.

don't be upset. i had the same fears. my DOC said the two things every bridehas second thoughts about are her dress and her hall, but you booked it and fell it love with it for a reason!
i was at the same point you were, and really was calling other places and stuff cause I just couldn't get it in my head that the wedding will be special no matter what.
what i wound up doing was calling the caterer (it's a space not a RH) and asking for the # of another bride who had her wedding there. she put all my fears to rest and told me she would not have had her wedding at any other place. granted, we are two different people, but I felt like I was talking to myself when I was talking to her. Everything she said was exactly what we were looking for. it was the best thing I could have ever done!

Thank you!!!! You ladies are all amazing. Nicole you DOC is a smart woman. I just wish I didn't second guess my decision. I do understand how much of an expense it would have been for everyone else. Thank you for breaking it down for me. I'm still unsure of what to do but you have helped me to deal with it a little better. Thank you all again for the words of wisdom and for talking yet another bride of the ledge.

Re: I need your help
Can you have your hall send you another copy of the contract? My hall emailed me a copy at work, at home and also one to FH. Just tell them you're on vacation and want to review some things on your contract and you don't have it with you.

Re: I need your help
I just read the one that was emailed to me and it says nothing about the cancellation policy. Maybe I'll try to see if they could fax me a copy I'm just afraid that will look kind of shady. Xanax is my BFF!!! Strictly for all the right reasons though

Re: I need your help
I have a lot of guests like you too....
And I looked into the lighthouse....
it was WAY out of our price range, and we are paying $125 + tax/grat at our wedding....
This is what they sent me when I inquired:
For a Saturday night in October 2008, we will need a minimum of 200 guests and the price per person is $245 plus the 22% service charge & 8.375% NY tax. For a Friday/Sunday night, the minimum decreases to 150 people and the price per person is $180 plus service & tax.
So....... that's out of control, for us, anyway.....

Re: I need your help
Also, our RH is really unique and umm, half the price of the lighthouse and can handle the same amount of guests...
so FM me if you need more info..
