I need your opinions and advice

I need your opinions and advice

Hi Ladies,

Okay so for weeks I have been going back and forth between what I should do for my honeymoon. FH loves cruises and I have never been on one. I'd like to go on one but my gf has told me, if I have never went on a cruise, to not go for the first time as my honeymoon just in case I get seasick b/c it would be relentless the whole time. Now, I usually do not get motion sickness and my parents own a 27' boat and I have never gotten seasick on that. When I was young, I did turn green from being on a speedboat.

On the other hand, I have never been to the caribbean EVER and I am getting myself confused if I'd rather stay on an island for 7 days or if I'd rather take a cruise. At the time of my wedding, it will be hurricane season and everyone says to go to Aruba. Aruba does look gorgeous and so does Curacao.

Now, if I did the cruise, it would be out of San Juan and visit Aruba for almost a full day, Curacao, St. Maarten and St. Thomas then back to San Juan. Sometimes I think I want a romantic honeymoon and other times I think I would like some kind of excitement. Yet, for the 2nd week, I will be going to my parents co-op in Florida and it will just be a very relaxing week.

For all the women who have been to the caribbean and stayed on an island, does it get boring if you are ther for 7 days? I do want to do excursions. That is another concern of mine, I don't understand how when you take a cruise and get off at the ports and have to be back to the ship by 5 you can get all the excursions done that you want on each island.

Sorry this is so long but as you can tell, I am seriously confused and can really use your input.

Thanks in advance...

I dont know to much about Islands, But I can tell you my experience on a crusie.. I never got motion sickness in my life, we have a boat as well, and the rocking on our boats is more up and down, this motion is side to side if any..I never really felt the moving, but I did for the first few days feel all the time like I just stepped out of an elavator, if you can relate.. Its no to bad, but you'd have to be prepared. My FH won't go on one, because he doesnt like to be stuck on a ship even though you can roam and do so many things u are at there beck and call.. But it is an experience all in its self. Good Luck!!

i'll do my best not to confuse you more.

as far as the timing with excersions and the ship... sorry to say, you can't do it all. depending on the time you are in each port, you might only be able to do ONE excursion per port.

i have only been to the dominican republic, but as for 'getting bored' on an island.... I SERIOUSLY DOUBT IT!!!

a hm, just like any other trip/vacation, is what you make of it. you will be a 'just married' woman... i have a very good feeling that you will find things to do .

We've never been on a cruise so I can't help there... But I can tell you that 6 days in Bermuda was just enough. We had perfect weather almost the whole time though - so if you figure 7 days with one or two of rain, then you'll be fine!

We had enough to do over 6 days with: beach going, sightseeing, tours, walks around town, shopping, massages, dinners out on the town, swimming with dolphins, another beach day with a couple we met...

We went to Bermuda which was wonderful. Not as hot as the carribean, and less than 2 hours from Kennedy. FM me if you want more info, I'd be happy to help.

I had the same questions as you. I was nervous to go on a cruise for the first time as my honeymoon. (DH had been on one cruise with his family) So we decided to go to St. Lucia. We are sooooo glad we did! We went for a full week and had an opportunity to visit the other 2 Sandals resorts, but we never did. We went on some excursions and we were very happy!!!!

BTW...... we just got a great deal on a 4 night cruise, so we're going next month!!!!! Only 6 months after our honeymoon!!!

Re: I need your opinions and advice

I've done both...cruises are great b/c it offers a lot of variety and change happens every day. I have never gotten sea sick either. If you do fine on your parents boat, I'm sure you'll do fine on a cruise.

I did Turks & Caicos for 7 days as well. Honestly, that was the best time ever! Granted, I wasn't there for a romantic atmosphere, but we had so much fun. If we felt like hanging out by the pool...we did. If we wanted to go on a snorkeling excursion, we did. We were never ever bored.

Like a previous poster said, you will never be able to do every excursion you want to do on each island if you cruise. You kind of have to pick one, maybe 2 depending on the timing, and go with it. Either way you go, you'll be doing the same thing. I've been to a number of islands and it's pretty much always the same stuff no matter which island you are on, unless your into the historical types of tours. You won't lose either way.

Re: I need your opinions and advice

I can't offer much advice at this point, but I can tell you that my FH and I are going on the exact cruise that you mentioned for our honeymoon.

We were going to go to either Aruba or Antigua for a week, but when we saw the cruise we knew we'd rather do that. It's true we won't get a lot of time in each port, but we'll have enough to see the island a bit...and then we'll know which ones we'd like to go back to for future trips....plus they'll be so much to do on the trip itself.

We booked a slightly upgraded room and we're going for it!!! I can share more thoughts/pics in 3 weeks when we get back ( )

Re: I need your opinions and advice

I have been on many cruises and only got sick once on my first one because there was a lot of movement that day and I was at the front of the ship...FROM that point on whether i was sick or not I took BONINE -jsut in case-a little pill you can pop in the morning and if you need it (i never did ) at night too... it works! AND You can drink! IT does not make you tired either...

I love cruises-everything is right there for you and you still get to enjoy the beaches/or whatever you plan to do...

I highly suggest at least having a window-if not a balcony
But the window works wonders!

I have been to quite a few caribbean islands-so we can chat about my favs...which are:

Grand Cayman
St. Maarteen
St. Thomas
St. John
Cozumel,Mexico
Curacoa was nice tooA
Aruba

There are so many

Royal Caribbean Cruises-my fav
Although my med. cruise honeymoon was on celebrity and we loved that too
Carnival was a lot of fun! BUT I personally would not suggest it for a honeymoon
Princess cruises-i was on as a teenager and felt there were a lot of 'old' people...but the quality of food was great-even at 17 I liked to eat well!

Have fun!

Re: I need your opinions and advice

I personally am not going to take a cruise for my honeymoon because I am also afraid of getting sick. I do get seasick. I will do a cruise though after I am married.

i have to agree with this. i went on a cruise for the first time in april. just to key west for a wedding and then we went to mexico and somewhere else..which i forgot. they didn't give enough time for more then 1 excursion...and those are really expensive might i add. i've been a sailor my whole life...since i was born...we had a 38 ft sailboat...and then we went to a 25 ft 'sailors powerboat' 4 yrs ago...and i never felt seasick once...well maybe once but we were in the middle of a hurricane so it doesn't really count haha. but the first day and some of the second day on the cruise...both me and my sister were feeling really sick...i mean it was choppy out there because there were thunderstorms but still it was horrible...everytime we walked it felt like we were being pulled off the ground due to the waves..if that makes sense. also being stuck on the boat for 2 days at sea...got really boring...that may be because FH wasn't with me, but i dont think so.i wanted to do the disney cruise for our honeymoon...then i thought of that and i was like nope..we're just going to disney instead. because i dont want my FH to feel like i did. hope this kind of helped...i mean its just about the cruise...but i'm trying here.

Re: I need your opinions and advice

okay i love cruises but for my honeymoon we arent doin one.

we want EVERYTHING included...drinks as well..
we want to be able to relax and just enjoy being married. the cruise..sometimes you dont feel very relaxed.

like...I DO get seasick and i only had 1 nite out of all the cruises i went on where i got sick. other than that i wasnt.

but we are going to an all inclusive resort to relax and soak up the sun and all that good stuff.

i mean it depends on the honeymoon you want. I couldnt see myself getting bored on an island for 7 days. i mean it depends on where you go.

hope i helped.not sure if i did.

Re: I need your opinions and advice

I've been on one cruise... with my mom (soooo NOT a cruise person! lol). I wasn't a fan of the cruise. I didn't get sick, but I felt trapped on the boat. I like being able to leave, go, get out, go where I want.

I would just say that maybe you may want to consider going on a cruise for your first anniversary or something... not necessarily for your honeymoon? There are cruise people... and there are non-cruise people. Why figure out which one you are on your honeymoon? You may end up BEING a cruise person! But, if you aren't, you may end up not having a very nice time on your honeymoon... and that would be pretty unfortunate. Whether it's being claustrophobic, bored or sick... there are too many variables to test out for your honeymoon.

I would play it safe and pick a FANTASTIC place that you can both be sure to enjoy for the most memorable trip of your life!

Just my opinion... good luck!!!
