I need your prayers

I need your prayers

My mother in law who has cancer came over yesterday for the fourth of july and she didn't eat a thing- she had a little piece of meat and couldn't eat anymore- and she doesn't have chemo in her right now-- I'm so worried because everyone else I know who died of cancer- stopped eating a few weeks before. She slept in my bed a lot of the day too-- I have grown to love her so much I can't imagine my life without her anymore.

& My father is having surgery on his broken arm in the morning 2marro and his dr. sent him for a chest xray after seeing him for pre-op- he is a heavy smoker too and I am so scared of what the results will be.

Please keep my family in your prayers. I so strongly believe in God and prayers and that is what is getting me through all of this.

Hugs and prayers.
I kow what you are going thru. I lost my mom to cancer almost three years ago. Two months after my mom died, my FMIL was diagnosed with lung cancer.
It is true that patients waiting to die do stop eating, the body just doesn't need food anymore because it is beginning to shut down and can't metabolize it. In your MIL's case, could it just be that she is having an off day ? The effects of chemo can last a couple of days. I remember that it usually hit my mom 2-3 days after the treatment, and it is running about the same for my FMIL.
Make sure she drinks fluids, Ensure is good if she can tolerate it, and so is Gatorade or even Pedialyte.
It's all in God's hands.
Best wishes for your Dad's recovery too.

Re: I need your prayers

Hi sweetie, just had to reply, my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer back in 1998, and guess what, they operated, she did chemo and radiation, and she's still HERE and doing pretty well. Chemo was TOUGH, as the effects are cumulative on the body, i.e. the first 1 or 2 were ok, later sessions seemed much worse because of the extra toxins. BUT THERE IS GOOD STUFF that can help. My mother lost all her appetite and she's a teeny little thing to start with. She found TREMENDOUS help drinking Ensure (the shakes? She takes em room temperature but you can refrigerate them too). Drank those by the case, and still does cause her appetite is OFF a lot!.
Also, carrot juice; we got a juicer and this really helped her get some nutrition. Carrot was her favorite but you can experiement.

For your dad - the chest xray preop is totally ROUTINE, my dad's a heavy smoker (like 2-3 pks a DAY) and has had many many surgeries, they ALWAYS send him for that, i believe they need to verify the lung function due to anesthesia issues.

So HTH and prayers and good luck to you and your family!!

I am so happy that your mother is doing so well!! She must be an extremely strong woman. God bless her.

For my FMIL it's a little different though. She has small cell and they cannot operate- it would spread rapidly if she had any kind of surgery. She's been battling since last July and this is the first time she lost her appetite. she hasn't even done Chemo since the end of May.

Like you said, it is in God's hands and I do know that and take complete comfort in it- and having you girls to come to for additional reasurance is so amazing..thanks
