I like how we thought our wedding would cost $30K.
We're not even going crazy with anything other than the hall.

I think its so funny how quickly the budget gets thrown out the window. We were 10k over our budget by the day of the wedding and then the extra tips hubby was handing out on the day of brought us even higher.

I hear ya! I remember when we got engaged, I told FH, 'I know someone who spent $60K on their wedding. Those people are crazy! We will never spend that much.' And here we are, a few weeks before our wedding and we are already over that by almost $20K!

This was us too We're right up there with you guys....the more money we shell out the more I keep thinking that this all could've been going towards a down payment on a house

Re: I now know what the $64,000 question is
And people have NO idea what a wedding costs. I broke down in the salon the other day over the expense and they were saying 'so a wedding costs..what $20K, you'll get back $15K in gifts'
First of all, it costs a TON more than that..and secondly I don't think our gifts are going to be that much I definitely was NOT expecting to get back our costs from gifts. I thought we'd maybe get $20K but I don't think we will get nearly that amount. We've been getting a LOT of registry gifts for the wedding, which I didn't expect, since my family is very much of the NYC 'give cash and try to cover your plate' mentality, right or wrong, and like I've been shocked at some of the gifts. I've gotten registry gifts ranging from $50-150 per COUPLE for people who are coming. I can see the $150 per couple. I can't expect people to shell out over $300 because that's what we decided to pay, but with the $50 per couple I was like 'REALLY???' Sorry, I'm a bridezilla, but I also always try to be as generous as I can when gift giving.

Re: I now know what the $64,000 question is
What budget?! A huge mistake I made was never setting a wedding amount and sitting down with my parents to discuss. We don't really do that. Although from what everyone is saying, maybe it doesn't matter. My parents never gave me a set amount that they were contributing. They're paying for the hall and FI and I are trying to cover as much as possible for the rest. Although I don't know that we'll be able to cover all of it but I know I can thankfully rely on my parents.
I know the amounts of everything but I haven't added it all together b/c basically I will freak out. I have these moments that I get completely overwhelmed and stressed about the $ and FI calms me down and says that it's worth it. I hope so but I'm trying not to at the cost of everything. Right off the bat, I know I spent too much on flowers and that is already a thorn in my side.
I'm just going to breathe and keep telling myself it will all be worth it and will turn out lovely.

You sound like me! Just last night I was stressing over $$$ and I was FREAKING OUT. FH calmed me down and told me this is a once in a lifetime thing so its worth it.....but still, it worries me!! We went completely over budget and I feel like an idiot now for paying more for certain things I know I couldve gotten cheaper

You'd think I would have learned right?! Not so much b/c I am working on invites that are more than I should be spending. Sigh.
