My dress last night! And it wasn't all happy emotions for me. I will post up pics later.
I went to show my mother the dress. And just by the look on her face, she didn't love it. And i was truely upset. I know that we have completely different tastes, but to not even tell me, you look great was just ...disappointing. The train is beautiful to me, and the bodice has some beadwork on it, but it's simple. And i think she had pictured me in some puffy, lace dress with sequins all over it. And it's not me. I am a simple girl! I fell in love with it, and i felt beautiful in it. And to think of myself pretty is hard for me. But, when i put it on, i can just see myself a year from now in it and say 'I am beautiful.'

My response might be annoying to you so I apologize if it is but I am going to throw it out there in case it has the effect I am hoping for.
My mother and I have very very different tastes just like you are describing and if she could be with me for this process (she had a very bad stroke 9 years ago and is unable to walk or talk) I am sure I would be in the same situation but try to remember just bc she doesn't like and I stress the word like doesn't mean you shouldn't fully appreciate that she is able to be with you and share this amazing moment bc I would give anything for my mom and I to be arguing in the salon together like the mother daughter we once were
It may not be your dream experience but its special so just focus on good things and try to make a joke out of your different tastes and styles... I promise if you take the high road you will develop a stronger bond

Re: I ordered...
I think you must look stunning in it and it is YOU that needs to feel beautiful that day! Not your Mom! By the way, not to sound like an idiot, but what is a blusher?? And why do you have to wear it??

a blusher is the veil that goes in the front to cover your face when you walk down the aisle. I guess with my mom getting married like 35 yrs ago, she thinks things are still the same.

i am so sorry to hear that...i know what it's like to have someone in the family deal with that. My grandfather had a stroke and i was very close to him.
Thanks...i will try to remember that the next time anything happens

Re: I ordered...
My mom was the same way - why are you not wearing a blusher? why are you seeing FH before the ceremony? why why why? Things have changed from when they were marred 20++ years ago. Unfortunately not everyone is going to agree with what we want even tho we want them to - but she doesnt have to wear your dress that day, you do, and as long as you feel beautiful, you will radiate beauty - and girl - that is ALL that is important

Re: I ordered...
Mom's usually aren't on the same page with their daughter's taste. My Mom and I sure weren't on the same page! YOU are the one that has to feel beautiful. It's YOUR day, not Mom's!

Re: I ordered...
thanks girls! i really felt terrible...but after thinking about it, i think i am allowed to be a little selfish (which is really hard for me) and if i am happy then, everything will work itself out.

I'm sure you look beautiful in your dress. Don't worry about others' opinions. You are the only one whose opinion counts!
edited because I just looked in your album. The dress is gorgeous! You are going to look stunning on your wedding day!

Re: I ordered...UPDATE!
It is your day-you wear whatever you want. Don't let people get you down about your chooses. My family put their 2 cents in all the time. I just ignore them. My thing is my Fh and I are paying for this wedding and we do what we choose. You are going to look beautiful in your gown. Not everyone has your taste. Your mom probably wanted you to get what she wanted you to get-it does not work that way. You have to be 100% happy- that is the most important thing. Congrats on finding your dress.
