This is a big debate in my family, so I'd like some other opinions

I agree with Lisalou - IMO - if kids want to watch TV, they can watch it with the family - it's time to spend with each other and it's also a good way to keep an eye on what they watch - Jordan will NEVER have his own TV - but that was the way me and my FH were brought up too.

No TV in their room until they are at least in High School and then I would only give them public TV so they can't find the bad stuff on cable Seriously, kids should treat their bedroom as a playroom/sleeping room only. They should be watching TV with their parents (supervised) - meaning not able to watch whatever, when no one is looking.

I don't even think adults should have tv's in their bedroom. (well, I should say that I don't think I would want one...who am I to say what I think other adults should or should not do)

I never had one in my room as a kid and neither will Luke till he is much older. My nephew is 3 and he's had one since he was an infant and I totally disagree with it. Of course, its not my business so I would never say anything but I knew I didnt want this for my child. No DVD player in the car either.

I wasn't allowed a tv in my room until I was 18. And I had to pay for the tv myself and contribute to the cable bill.

When they have their own apartment they can put TV's in every room for all I care. But in my house...no tv in the room ever. I wasn't even allowed a phone in my room!

i agree 100%!!!!!! if a child wants to watch TV, he/she should watch as a family. there are too many things on TV nowadays that are totally inappropriate for a child - even things on during 'prime-time'.
i never, ever had a TV in my room until i started college, and i turned out fine

We have no TV in our bedroom and neither will our children when we have them.
FH and I also agreed no computers in their rooms. We want to be able to view what they are doing or watching all the time. It's a scary world we live in.

wow : ) I think i'm in the major minority here but I really don't see an issue with a tv in a child's room.
I had one since i was about 10 and all my cousins did too. We all got them together one christmas. I do agree with monitoring though and having family tv time together.
I do also agree with no computers in the room. There is too much trouble that can be found without supervison.

I would wait until my children are teenagers to have a TV in their rooms.
As for the DVD player in the car... I would never have made it upstate in the car with Emma and myself without it. Im all for less distraction for the driver and more keeping the child occupied!

I didn't have a TV in my room until I was about 18 I think.
My nephew is 9 and he has one in his room. But he only uses it for 30 minutes before he goes to sleep. That's his treat for getting into bed on time and getting ready for school the next day. Any other time, he watches TV out in the family room.

My parents got me a tv for my bedroom when i was 6!!!! And I had cable and HBO! I am such a tv-aholic now...it's awful. I've learned from their mistakes (I hope) and won't be giving our daughter her own tv. Nope, no way!

My sister has a small monitor/VCR in my nephew's room (he's 3). They have a small house and he uses his bedroom as a playroom as well. She's able to put video tapes in to keep him occupied while he's playing. (Baby Einstein, Sesame Street, etc.) The monitor is not hooked up for TV.
I got a TV in my room when I was about 12/13. It was black & white and it had the rabbit-ear antennas. I think I was able to get 6 stations on that thing (2, 4, 7, 9, 11 & 13). Needless to say, I spent most of my TV watching time with the family in front of the color TV. But, it was nice to be able to catch a show in my room if I needed to.

I got a TV for my 13th birthday. And I had asked for ice skates! I guess I'm in the minority...

Re: I posted this once before, but at what age (if any) should kids have a TV in their room?
OK, well here's my take on it. My son is 6 and he's asking for a TV. I've always been very against this. My neices have had TV's in their room since they are 3. (My older neice, who's 7, now has a TV/VCR/DVD player!!) All of my sons friends and cousins have TV's in their room (and I mean ALLLL of them!) I wouldnt get him one yet, but I'm thinking maybe at 8 or so, and the rule would be that he can ONLY watch it for 1/2 hr before bed. I NEVER want it to take away from family time. (I'm good at making rules and he's good at following them, so I'm not concerned that it might become abused, because I wouldn't allow it)
I'm kinda shocked at myself for once saying 'never, no way, not my kid' to know actually thinking about it
