it is very hard - we have been scraping and saving up big time - we cut out most dinners in restaurants this past month and half completley (before then we had allowed ones that were for special occasions) i also got a 2nd job on weekends and fh has been picking up overtime. as long as you are concious of how much things cost, you should be ok - b/c you realize what you can and cannot afford...good luck, it may seem like a hassle now but hopefully it will all pay off!!

Re: i really dont understand how everyone...
I can tell you this. I''m one Bride who DIDN''T want the wedding to begin with. I begged to elope even before we got engaged. I knew there would be no way we could afford a NY wedding. If I couldn''t have the wedding I''d dreamed of, I simply didn''t want it. (Not to sound like a snob, I''m not like that, I''m just not one to do something 1/2 A55ed.) FI at the time insisted we have a wedding and get married in a church- not on a beach in Hawaii. So, COMPROMISE became the name of the game. I have 2 jobs and DH makes extra money on the side. We sacrficed for 2 years and saved & did it. I wouldn''t exchage that for anything in the world. It was a great learning expierece, although stressful at times. However, I know that there is nothing we can''t accomplish & I had the best day of our lives!!!! You can do it & you won''t have any regrets, nor will he

Re: i really dont understand how everyone...
thanks guys, you really are great with your advice. it is so difficult to vent to the people in my life, I know they think to themselves, 'you did it to yourself, having an expensive wedding'. it can be discouraging at times. i just want to make sure i made the right decisions. we have a house already and live together. This is the only thing we have to worry about saving for, for a while. Its just that I am not all about being married (dont get me wrong, i think it is the most wonderful thing when you find someone who wants to be in your corner for the rest of your life)but I guess it is just weird for me to want a big wedding since I was so god aweful against getting married (no one ever seems happy AND married, the 60% divorce rate, blah, blah) and now I am one of those 'brides'. But, darn it, it will be so nice to have a beautiful wedding. So thanks for 'listening' while I spoke my part. I dont want to bore my friends and you girls can relate.
