I reeeeallly want to walk down the aisle to COME WHAT MAY, but.......

My mom said that she's been waiting to see her youngest daughter walk down the aisle to the traditional 'instumental' songs. Like Canon in D or something I absolutely LOVE the song that Ewin McGregor & Nicole Kidman sing to each other in Moulin Rouge. And it is soooooo the perfect song for us (Long story, but he's the penniless sitar player & my ex boyfriend is the Ma Haraja, use your imagination )

My bridal party is enormous so we'd definately have enough time to get through the song & then when it gets quiet & builds up with the choir.......They'd open the doors & I'd be on my daddy's arm staring into the eyes of my handsome prince waiting for me at the end of the aisle....
Seriously people, go download this song & tell me I'm not insane!!!! I need honest opinions here ladies. Is it really weird to have an actual song to walk down to???

why is it so important to her? did your sisters NOT do it to the song she wants (and if that is the case, it's not your responsibility or burden to make up for it...or live her dream wedding)? i think this song should be your choice...i really do.

i had the same problem. my mom wanted traditional music as well for me but I wanted 'one hand one heart' from a west side story (my fave movie!!!). So we compromised...i'm using traditional music for the processional and using my song for the unity candle lighting. maybe you could do the same? are you having unity candle or hand ceremony?

I think she'll be alright if I show her the song & let her know exactly when I'd be walking down during the song. Maybe if she finds out what the song is about, she'll be more understanding. She said ultimately is was MY decision, but it's that whole guilt thing.

Oh, and yes...We are going to be doing the Unity candle, but the song that's going to be playing is from Life is Beautiful called 'Buongiorno Principessa'. I know it's a sad movie, but it really captures a love between two people who sacrifice everything to be with each other. (FH's family is Jewish, I'm 100% Italian). Only our ending will be way happier.

We chose that as our wedding song so I had to have it in my wedding ceremony somehow. We had it played by a quartet during our unity candle lighting. It was beautiful!!!!

I think once you've played the song for your mom and explained what it means to you she will understand. I love that song - I'm sure she'll love it too!!

But do you think it's dumb to walk down to a song from a soundtrack? I don't want to feel stupid because I have never been to a wedding where the bride walked down to anything BUT the traditional songs. I don't want to feel stupid.
