I ruined the magic of Santa for my niece

My family celebrated Christmas yesterday b/c many are going away this week. As the little one's were opening gifts in the front of the living room, the adults were towards the back (With an 11 year old cousin). My little cousin opens a gift and it was an Xbox game from her aunt. So, I turned to her Mom and said 'Is Santa getitng her the Xbox?'. Well, she looked at me like, SHHHHHHH'. I said 'She can't hear me'. Later she explained that the 11 year old still beleived in Santa and that I said it like she was Santa. I felt terrible but then thought 'What 11 year old beleives in Santa'. How old were you when you stopped??

I would feel bad too but I really wouldn't think an 11 year believed in santa. It's very sweet that she did though.

ETS - maybe she didn't hear you??

Im not sure how you ruined it though because you did refer to 'santa' its not like you said her parents. Maybe she just thought that you knew that she asked santa for it?

I stopped beleiving at 10- and I think that was considered late!!

I hate to say this but I was 10 when I found out that there is no Santa. My niece found out that there was no Santa last year when she was 12.

I'm sure you didn't ruin it for her. If she really believes than she wouldn't have thought anything of your question.

One of my brothers believed in Santa forever, even after our younger siblings knew the truth. I think he was just a naive kid and he could not comprehend that my parents would lie to us. Seriously, he was in middle school before he finally understood.

Seriously, I thought 11 was a bit old. I must have been like 8 or something. Me and my big mouth

how did you saying 'did santa get her the x-box' mean that you ruined it?

seems like your sister saying 'shhhhhh' ruined it more. all she had to say was 'mmmm gee i guess so, i didn't get it for her!' and then tell you out of earshot.

weird.

i was 11 myself when i learned.

My 10 year old neice knows there is no santa but loves the magic of it so she plays along!

ETA I have no clue how old I was when I figured it out! But my mom was sure happy, she used to stay up until I fell asleep so I wouldnt see her put the gifts out! But I was determined to wait for santa and see him so I would have her up until 2+am and then I would wake her up at like 6 to open them all!

When I was six, I told my mother to 'come clean' about Santa because it just didn't make sense I was too smart for my own good. But don't feel so bad, apparently I ruined Christmas for an entire restaurant of children this weekend when I blurted out to my ten year old cousin, 'So you finally figured out there's no Santa?!' Every small child turned and looked at me, and a few began to cry Sensitive times, I tell ya, sensitive times
