I swear I'm just going to elope!!

This wedding has gotten out of control and all I do is figh with my parents...they don't approve of the fact that I live with FH, we just bought a house together, and make this point known everyday. They think because they are paying for the wedding they can control every single detail. At this point...I would rather not have their money and just elope...their money comes with too many strings....if they don't approve they are being hypocritical by hosting the party anyway I swear they want the wedding more than I do anyway...I just want a marriage...please don't quote

sorry you have to deal with this.

unfortunately these are the type of things that happen when its someone else's money.

i know when my cousin was getting married she was dealing with the same thing with her mom so what she did was, her & her now DH paid for the wedding & had what they wanted & her mom just gave them a monetary gift at the wedding. do you think that would be possible?? if not, maybe you should have a sit down with your parents & explain how stressful everything is.

But I agree with Barb, we don't have the parent issues, but sometimes i feel like saying the hell with it and just going to town hall

I've tried...my dad is reasonable its my mom thats crazy....I tell them that either their money is a gift or I don't want it andthen my dad says they will back off we are good for like a month and then its crazy again....I don't t want the big wedding, they do so if they aren't paying----I'm eloping!!!! Possibly this weekend

aww well whatever decision you are making!! hope it works out for you just remember it is a parent's dream to go to their daughter's wedding! if you decide to marry this weekend at least give them a notice!!! it is better for them to at least know that not knowing at all it can cause damage and resentment to your relationship with your parents good luck hun

I agree with Christine though that people who are paying for it feel like that have the majority of the say cuz it's their $.. not realizing it's someone else's wedding. My mom always joked, 'you'll have YOUR wedding when your daughter gets married.' Luckily she is contributing to the wedding but FH and I are paying for the majority of it. If she was paying the whole think i know we'd fight all the time.

If i decide to move in with FH before we get married i'll DEF hear it from my mom... she's old school italian and that's just not how things are done.. according to her.

Be glad that you have your dad on your side and i guess just wish and hope for the best. Have you mentioned to them that u might elope because of the stress it's causing?

have you tried talking with your parents? i do agree with you that if their money comes with too many strings, then sometimes its not worth it. i would have a long talk with them. good luck!

im so sorry my FH wanted to elope because we are paying for the wedding and he want all the money to go towards the house. your parents are most likly upset because they feel you are leaving them, my best friend moved out last june and her father was so upset that he went out on her moving day, he still makes commeents that she stay home till she married and not spend money on rent but lol her grandfather owns the place she lives in so she thinks as she ll get it back one day. If you elope it will just break there hearts take with them tell you have a house and would to get itt ready togethre before you married and let them know you are getting very upset. I think if i elope my mother would freak.

I completely understand. Our parents are hosting the wedding also but I'm grateful they haven't driven me mad yet. FMIL does try to have a say in things that does not concern her, but I know how to handle her. It ***** though, because when she says stupid things I have to think whether the fight is worth it or not.
