I think FMIL has a screw loose...

I think FMIL has a screw loose...

FH picked his best friend to be the best man... DUH! That's what most guys do..

Well, FMIL thinks he should have picked his father to be the BM!!! I mean, I love my parents and all, but they have their places in the wedding and I don't think that that's right.

So now she's all ****y about it... she brings it up every couple days. We're not listening to her, but I was shocked that she's making such a big deal out of it!

Here's a question that everyone seems to skip...did anyone ask his DAD what he thinks?

Tell her to put a sock in it!

And you're right, parents DO have their place. Just silly!

Wow - what are any of these parents thinking? If the guys wants his best pal up there w/him, that's HIS decision.

My DH asked his father, and he was so touched by the gesture that the man cried! And, he joked about the official 'place' the father of the groom has in the wedding during his Best Man toast...he said the only think the father of the groom has to do at the wedding is hold tissues for the mother of the groom!

My mom wanted me to have my older sister as a bridesmaid! She's 45! Her daughter is in the wedding, and that's enough. My mom was mad b/c I'm having my best friend (of 25 years-since we were 2) as MOH and one of my BMs is my dads daughter (my 18 yr. old sister).

When she mentioned it to my older sister-my sister said 'Why the hell would I want to dress up like a bridesmaid and walk down an aisle at 45?'

I'm sure FFIL wouldn't want to do it either-it's weird! FMIL def. has a screw loose

Eternity, I feel your pain!!!

We dealt with something similar a few months ago. FH was all set to ask his best friend to be his BM. Then his mother says 'did you think of asking your Dad? I think he would really like it.' FH hadn't thought about it so this made him all confused. He really wanted his best friend, but since he's an only child and his mom mentioned his dad, maybe he should have his dad instead. I was so mad at FMIL for doing that to him. I told FH that his mom was crazy, since his dad is older and doesn't get around very well. I said, how can you expect your dad to be on his feet and running around all day? That FMIL, who lives with FFIL and KNOWS he isn't in the best physical condition would suggest it totally baffled me. Anyhow, FH asked his dad. His dad was very touched but wouldn't give him an answer right away. Eventually he declined because he just didn't feel like he could do the job physically (he didn't give an answer right away because he didn't want to let FH down). So, basically FMIL made FH feel guilty and made FFIL feel bad. Arrrggghh, I was a little frustrated over the whole thing. I'm glad its resolved.

Hang in there, it will all work out. Have a beer in the meantime... it helps, I swear!

I don't think there's anything wrong with FFIL being the best man. I think it speaks volumes about the father/son relationship.

But I do not think your FMIL should make a big deal about it. This is obviously your FH's decision and she should respect it!
