I think I found the church but.....

My FHand I are getting married about an hour from our home and really wanted a church wedding. We initially wanted to have our ceremony in a church near our reception hall. I have found a few churches that I really like, but obviously we do not belong to their parish. Are there any tricks around this problem. And if so....please help!!! I am listening

I got married in a church where I wasn't a member. They never questioned it. I'm not sure if they just assumed we were members of that parish? It wasn't an issue for me.

Some will allow you to get a letter from your current parish, and others will respond to $$$ (unfortunately). I also heard that it's better to speak to a priest or deacon rather than the front office. The priest/deacon may be more willing to say yes, and probably have the authority to override any rules.

i have heard of some churches (particularly catholic ones) that ask why you want to have your wedding there. But otherwise it shouldn't be a problem.

I actually had a lot of trouble with Catholic churches. We wanted to get married in Jersey (where we live) and several churches said no off the bat because we weren't parishioners, and couldn't join unless we lived in the town. A few said we needed a letter from our current parish, and when we called they said unless we made 'contributions' in the provided envelopes, they wouldn't know who we were and that we were actually contributing, so they may not be able to write a letter. Granted, if I spoke to the priest I think he would have been more sympathetic. Not all Catholic churches are like this, and a more conservative one may even give you a list of the more liberal churches in the area.

If you look at other denominations they tend to be less restrictive.
