today i got my hair highlighted for the first time- i ahve very ong thick hair- it came out awesome. the bill was 200 dollars and i only gave the guy a 10 dollar tip for some reason i though that this was a good amount. i talked to my friend and she said no way i should have given him at least thirty- now i feel really bad about it and i dont know what to do because i really like this sylist and i want to go back to him in the future. Should i go back and make up some excuse what do you think pls help thanks

Just forget it. Go back when you are ready, and tip him better next time. If you go give him more now, it will be strange.

Not to mention, there are sOOOOOOO many people out there who are AWFUL tippers that your 10 dollars probably looked a lot better than you think. I know some people who refuse to tip their hairstylists at all! So let's be thankful you're not like that I think if you tip him very well next time, your conscience will feel at ease. Just the fact that you're even worried about it is a good sign of character!

I don't know.... I think I'm going to disagree on this one (but I am a notorious over-tipper!). I believe that if you are happy with a service you should tip accordingly, no matter what other people do. I always tip my colorist well, and he throws in little extras, will squeeze me in last minute when I need it. But I tip well because I am happy with what he does to my hair. I might find an excuse or a reason to go back and give him a little extra. I'm sure he wouldn't mind!

If you want to use him again, I would go back & give him a little bit more. Just tell him how much you love it & that you wanted to give something extra because it came out so good.

I would go back and give him another $20 or so and a note joking about how the fumes went to my head - esp since you want to go back. Esp since you feel bad now.
I did something like that once in a restaurant. I had a $150 gift certificate that was deducted from the final bill so when I got the charge slip I added the tip to the bottom line there - not the whole bill . I felt so bad to undertip by that much ($30-35) at such an expensive restaurant. So I picked up a small box of candy and added a card with the tip apologizing for the oversight. The waitress really appreciated the effort.

I would also go back and tip more. It will feel awkward but the colorist will be happy that you felt so strongly and came back.

Ouch!- 15% would have been the $30 tip. If he did a such a great job I would've tipped 20% ($40). If it's not such an inconvenience to you, just go back and pay the difference. I'm sure he'll appreciate it! You can be kind of honest, and say you miscalculated his/her tip by accident.

Oh- Don't worry about it! Just don't make a big deal out of it when you get there. Maybe the salon has those little yellow envelopes you can just drop it off in, with a note. Just say it was an accident, and you felt bad, and here is the rest of your tip. Tell him/her how much you loved it!!

Don't feel like an idiot, it was an honest mistake! Like p&a said, just tell him it was an oversight. You're giving him money , I'm sure he will be very gracious about it! And I'm sure he will remember your honesty and decency the next time you come in.

10 dollars is not enough at all.... I would definitely go back and give him more....you may feel akward, but he will be very appreciative. If it were you, you would want someone to do the same....JMO I would say give him at least 20 more, if not 30.
