I think I may have made mistake and I am not sure what to do. Invite dilema. SUPER EXTRA LONG!
Since we started planning the wedding we had (well, really I had) decided to have my friend that is a graphic designer create our invites. she does great work and did a fantastic job on my STD's. at first we were going to go with te scroll invite, and she made me a sample, which was beautiful- but when I added up all of the costs and also how much time it would take her, I wanted to change it to something a little simpler. (like the pic below)
so we start on that and go shopping for papers and colors. we did some 'crafting' at home and came up with a few that we liked. FH liked on in particular that I liked, but I wasn't crazy about the colors. they matched our theme, but were more party party than formal party. I wanted something with color, but more in golds or silvers or something to go along with the hall and theme (a Victorian Mansion) so to make a long story just a little shorter...we STILL have no decided on paper and my friend is in Thailand (yes, Thailand for a month ) due back Jan. 15.
My invites MUST go out on 2/6. It just ***** b/c today fh was like 'what's the story with the invites' and really we have no idea....and he 'reminded' me that we could have had this taken care of months ago (had we gone with the invite he liked) He doesn't seem to want to look at paper anymore and I am just about at my wits end with this.
I am SOOOO VERY tempted to just order them somewhere, just to get them done, BUT then my friend comes back from Thailand and what do I say????? we are both starting to get sick of this stuff (fh and I).

Does she have access to email? Can you write her and tell her that with timing, there is no way you guys can pick paper, ger them printed, stuffed and mailed in 2-3 weeks? This way she is not surprised by your decision when she returns. If you feel really bad, than I would get everything else on your end ticked and tied - address list, stamps, etc this way you are ready for her when she returns. Also, is there anyway you can pick the paper yourself with FH while she is away? HTH.

Your friend's work is stunning, and I can understand how much of a dilema this is for you.
However, you have to remember the following:
1) No one except for the bride (sometimes groom) notices the 'overall' theme. They notice the theme at the reception, but they don't notice that the pew bows at the church and the invitations do not match the centerpieces.
2) That's a really tough deadline for Maria. Yes, she can do it, but do you really want to rush it at this point?
IMHO: There are some stunning invitations out there Jess - it just takes compromise and time to find it. I would definitely nixx going with Maria, and getting invitations ASAP.
I'm willing to help you if you want to go to the DIY route.

I would start looking for something else. I am sure your friend will understand that you needed to get your invites done while she was away. You can still work with her to do your programs (if you are doing them).

Why do they 'have' to go out 2/6? I know it's not ideal, but can you send them out a week later so that she'll have about a full month to work on them?
And don't stress...or try not to. It will get done. You're being proactive by thinking about all this now. Yes, your FH doesn't want to hear about paper, but that's what happens when we give them TMI up front (it happened to me too). Breathe, relax and think about what YOU want. What do you envision? If it's your friend making them, then go with that. If not, then order them. Don't dwell!
I swear...if I hear you having hair and make-up issues I will have to check and see if you're not me. Because my dilemmas and headaches were: family, dress, invites, money and hair and make-up.
But, and this is a big but, it all worked out and it was very much worth it!

Jess..
Your friend will completely understand. JUst tell her that you have been completely burnt out with wedding stuff and you realized that the invites were taking to much time and energy from what you really need to be paying attention to.
In addition maybe the extra cost of your dress will help you in saying that it was just more cost effective to order them?

Jess between this & your dress, you need some relaxation time.. You seem so stressed You should really go for a massage or something. I hope everything works out for you.

I say go ahead and order the invitations that you like. It will relieve some of the stress that you've gathered over the past couple of months. Im sure when you talk to your friend and tell her that you've been stressed and just wanted the invitation business done with, she will understand...real friends do. And Im sure she knows that you think her work is wonderful...but a peaceful mind counts more

I totally agree. It's not worth driving yourself crazy over.
