I Think I'm Having A Bridezilla Moment

Re: I Think I'm Having A Bridezilla Moment

I think you should give her the option of bringing a date. I don't agree with your brother that 'all single' guests should be allowed to bring a date, however, I think anyone in the BP who is single should have that option.

Regardless of whether you think her children should be exposed to 'random' men (which I happen to agree with you on by the way), you are not the children's mother. You can disagree with her parenting, but there's really nothing you can do about it. She has to follow her own moral compass.

As for addressing the invite, what about this:
Sister and Guest
Niece
Nephew

I think if you have a serious issue with it, you are allowed to have *****************. Whether or not you agree with how she is raising her children and how she is exposing them, you don't need to invite people you don't want at your wedding.

Here's another one for you...I invited most of my wedding party (unless they were married or had a girlfriend) as a one. I told them that they were going to be running around with us all day and I couldn't see 'finding a date for a wedding' to put them through that since Danfords isn't close to home (many are coming from out of state as well) and if something changes between now and the wedding feel free to bring someone, but it seems wrong since my girls will be with me the whole day and some guy will basically be sitting by himself all day til the reception. Maybe you could point out that you need her assistance as your MOH for at least the first half of the day and it's awkward when there's a date there that you don't know.

ITA -- And this is a nice way to do the invite.

I think that it's your day and whatever you WANT will be the right thing to do. I'm a little tired of hearing all this stuff about, well if you invite this one you HAVE to invite that one blah blah blah. I hear it ALL THE TIME from everyone. I think as long as my FH and I agree on whatever the situation is, that's all that matters. Do you want to be annoyed on your wedding day? Looking at this guy, annoyed you HAD to invite him? I know I wouldn't. Then again, I've been called Bridezilla a few times already. Oh and selfish. HELLO, it's my wedding!!!

Go with your gut.

ITA- as much as i totally agree with you that you dont want your niece and nephews exposed to random men, its not your decision. Hopefully your sister will realize this. But i would invite her with a guest and hope and pray she does the right thing. You cant help who brings whom to your wedding- its something you cant stress over.
and very good way to address the invitation.

I do think that she should be allowed to bring him, as much as it *****. Nobody at my wedding is getting to bring a date unless they are in a serious relationship OR they are in the bridal party. I figure, they are doing so much for us as the BP they deserve to bring a date.

As for the introducing random men..while I agree with you, I agree with the other poster who said these are not your children so you don't get to make decisions for them. If this is who she wants to introduce her children to, that's her choice.

I agree with the above. I'd be just as unhappy as you are, but I guess since she's in the bridal party she should be allowed to bring a guest. You probably won't notice he's there and it sounds like the right thing to do. I feel for you though!

I know I am not the mother but I am their aunt, doesn't that count for something? I am not trying to be mean to my sister, its my nephews and niece being exposed to this that really burns me. I don't like my wedding being used as a venue with which to promote this type of behavior. I can't control what my sister does otherwise, but I can control MY wedding.

I think if the invitation was addressed to her..with no date..then she needs to respect that.. it is what it is.. and $130 is a lot to spend on someone that wasnt invited in the first place ... at least i think $130 is a lot because I live in PA & average price is $30 per person.

I think your sister will be fine to not have a man at her side for one night..

and who knows.. maybe she will meet a GOOD guy!

I understand what it's like to be an aunt and not agree with your sister's parenting skills. However, it's not your place to tell your sister how to raise her children or who they should/shouldn't be exposed to. Believe me, there are MANY things my sister does / doesn't do with her children that I don't agree with. But I also don't have any children of my own yet, so I am in no position to say anything about raising children.

With that said, all of my BP member will be invited with a date, regardless or whether or not they're in a serious relationship.

My rule -- If you have been dating for over 6 months, are living together, are engaged, or are married, you get a date. None of these? NO DATE

I agree with all the previous posters - you should really invite your sister with a guest. It's not your decision as to who she dates or when she introduces her children to her bfs.

Re: I Think I'm Having A Bridezilla Moment

I think if you have a strict 'no dates unless serious' rule, then it's perfectly fine to stick with it, especially since he would be sitting at one of the family tables. I'm totally with you on not allowing guests to bring random people to your wedding.

I dont' think a reason should be that your nieces/nephews shouldn't be introduced to random men because they're her kids and her business, and there's nothing stopping her from introducing him to her kids at another time anyway.

Well said.

Just let her bring the date and be done with it. I do NOT agree that she should bring a date, but its the right thing to do.

And, you are not the kids parent, and this is not the place to introduce mommy's new F buddy of the day. But its not YOUR choice to make for the kids.

Also, your brother is wrong about all single guests bring dates.

You can call your sister up and just bite the bulet, Be nice and tell her you were thinking about i and you were wrong. You would be happy to have her invite a date.

Its not worth the fight, and besides. Showing a little understanding (even if its fake) may go a long way to making you and your sister ok.

Although it's annoying - I think most people this age group expect to be invited with a guest and if other people are there with guests she's gonna see it as you singling her out. I think you've stated your opinion and she knows how you feel but in the end you should just let her bring a date and avoid the drama...
