I think I'm supposed to join you over here now?

So DH and I got married almost a year ago (it's going to be a year on Monday). We got married at the RH (He's Catholic and I was raised Jewish - mom Jewish, dad Catholic) and were told by someone that we can get a dispensation from the church AFTER our wedding. Well turns out that was wrong. DH wants our marriage recognized by the Catholic Church (I had a ketubah). We were also told by some churches that to Christen our children we must have our marriage blessed by the Catholic Church (we're raising our children Catholic). We've been told so many different things from different churches we decided to just make sure that the marriage is blessed.

So anyway, we met with DH's church and they informed us we had to get a dispensation BEFORE our wedding. Now that we are married we have to have an actual wedding in the church. I'm excited about it since our wedding was more to make the family happy then us happy. We probably won't do a RH or anything. We don't even know if we are going to invite friends besides our immediate family. I AM going to go get a cheap white dress (well not cheap but DEF less then what I paid for the dress that just won't fit me now) and DH will wear a suit. We aren't going overboard mainly because I'm tired of my parents or other people making comments like it's ridiculous and what not.

I have a lot of questions being that I have NO IDEA when to meet with people or who we have to talk to. We're set for December 4, 2011 at St. Francis is Wantagh. We are supposed to be contacted by someone for Pre Cana but we haven't heard anything yet. I'll probably call them this week since I think it starts in October.

So I guess my question is...can I join you girls over here?

If you want flowers, i would go to a local florist and explain the situation. I'm sure they will make you a nice bouquet for your wedding day...

The best decision we made was to go to the Engaged Encounter for pre-cana. It's more expensive than the other options out there but its one weekend and its a weekend away and its was a phenomenal experience for us.

Thank you ladies! It's nice to be back. As soon as DH decides what he wants to do about the day and night I will be able to plan a little bit better. I AM going dress shopping on October 1st and I'm sure that will be enough time (lets hope since it's the only weekend I have free).

DH's cousin owns a florist in the town I grew up in. I spoke to him already and he told me to come in if we decide we want to do that. One of my bridesmaids from the first wedding went to her farmers market by her house and asked if they had flowers. She was all ready to make my BoK if we wanted to go that route (she's the best)!

As for the pre-cana, it seems that St. Francis is a little strict on things. We can do the retreat but we HAVE to do pre cana through their church as well. I wish but thank you for the suggestion!

dont you have to convert to get married in the catholic church?

No, when their are interfaith marriages one does not have to convert. We just have to promise that we will be raising our children Catholic and we are.
