I think my dress might be too short...UPDATED

I think my dress might be too short...UPDATED

When i went for my first fitting and put on my dress (I'll be wearing flats btw) the dress came up about an inch and a half off the ground. I alwasy thought the dress was suppose to almost touch the ground (maybe like a half inch off the ground). My bridal salon said 'no thats the way its suppose to be' blah blah blah....

I'm just curious how far off the ground everyone's dress is.

ETA for question: IF I decide that in fact my dress IS too short...can they make a dress longer that hasnt been taken up at all?

UPDATE: So, I just spoke with my mom and now she says that when we went for my fitting so thought it was a little short too. I'm worried because my dress was custom made for me and I feel like the shop is going to say too bad and they cant re-do it now.

personally I think it should go to the ground, but I guess you can have it anyway you want it

If you feel its too short for you, then tell them thats how you feel and make them let out the hem.

Love your dress its beautiful. It's not too short at all. It is a little above the gorund but it doesnt look bad. Dont worry about it.

My experience with alterations is go with your gut. I've read so many stories on here about girls who regret not being more vocal about their fittings. If you aren't happy...make them find a solution to make it a little longer! Best of luck!

Re: I think my dress might be too short...but i dont know

just looked at your album and it doesn't look too high off the ground to me...but again, when i look at my pics of my wedding my dress seems to be of varying lengths throughout the day depending on how I'm standing so my vote still stands to go with your gut!

BTW...you look gorgeous and I truly wish I had your teeny-tiny waist!

The pic in my album is actually of the sample dress. Mine seemed shorter than that one. I also was wearing a hoop skirt during my fitting (which I will be wearing for the wedding) which also made the skirt come off the ground a tad more.

In regards to length I would say the way the sample fits is the way it should look (close to the ground). But I agree, go with your gut. Oftentimes seamstresses don't want to have to redo the dress so they will say it looks okay even when it doesn't. Did you bring anyone with you for opnions? What did they think?

I brought my mom but she was no help. She said she didnt know and that she 'thinks it looks normal' I'm just scared because I plan on wearing flats for the reception, but I may wear a 1' heel for the ceremony and pics. If I do, im almost positive it will be too short

Then I say call them and tell them you want a longer hem. You definitely don't want this in the back of your mind as you get closer to your wedding, trust me there will be plenty of other things to worry about!

Re: I think my dress might be too short...UPDATED

I just looked at your pictures and saw that you said that is the sample gown you are in for the first fitting album.

I think the way the sample fits is good (length wise). If your gown is any shorter than that, I would definitely say something to them.

At first I was going to tell you that from the pictures it seems like a great length but I saw that you said that was the sample and yours is shorter.

Honestly, I would speak up and tell them it's too short. ESPECIALLY if you want to wear a 1' heal too. If it's that short, then THEY made an error when they ordered it for you. Good luck!

Not too short at all from your pics. You don't want to be kicking the front all night either.

Re: I think my dress might be too short...UPDATED

is the dress that high off the floor with your heels on or with your flats?

from my experience.......my dress was slightly off the floor (1/2' at most), but during the day of the wedding the slip would de-poof....and the dress would come down which caused lots of tripping........

maybe they did it that way so when the dress de-poofs it'll be at a perfect length?

The pics are of the sample dress, not her dress.

Yeah I know the pics in the album are the sample. I just wasn't sure which shoes if any she was wearing at her fitting that she went to. Was she wearing the flats and the dress was 1 1/2' off the floor or was she wearing the heels she was considering for the ceremony....or no shoes at all?

During th efitting I wore flats and it felt short. Since I'm wearing a hoop skirt, I dont think it can de-poof during the day. It sounds like it should be around 1/2' off the florr by what you all are saying....it definately wasnt that long

Re: I think my dress might be too short...UPDATED

I'm sure they'll be able to fix it......just let let them know you want it longer.

Just curious....why did you schedule your fittings so early?

Since I'm having a lot of extra work done to the dress (adding cap sleeves, doing a custom veil, adding extra bead work, etc.) she wanted me to start my fittings as early as possible to make sure everything would be done in time.

Maybe if you don't wear the hoop skirt it will be longer? I also think that if it's shorter than the sample dress you should tell them you need it let out.Thank God you had fittings so early, at least they have time to fix it!
